    Floyd vs. Roid

Who wins in a matchup up only based on styles.

    A p4p style matchup.

Who do you think would win? I'm not asking who's greater, who's better or anything like that. Based on how they fight, who would win in a matchup if they were the same weight.

    Floyd Mayweather's style wins

    Roy Jones' style wins

    hmm

Obviously I'm a Roy fan, so my opinion would be promptly ignored, but here is what I honestly think, based on the evidence.

In the one fight where Roy faced someone like Floyd (Toney), Roy won every round. Even with his weight issues, Toney was favored to win.

Only thing with Floyd is, he has less power than Toney p4p and would be even less able to get Roy's respect than Toney was. To me, this would be a BAD style matchup...not as bad for Floyd as it was for Toney because Floyd would be more focused, but still bad.

      Vote.

You have a point, but Floyd can move around the ring alot better than Toney. I also think his hand speed can cause Roy some problems, but Roy's hard countering from the outside would be nightmarish for Floyd.

          i say:

          power: RJJ
          speed:RJJ
          technique:PPF
          stamina:tie
          ring smarts:RJJ
          outside punching:RJJ
          inside punching: PBF

First round they are going to be cautious as they try to time each other. then the final seconds roy pushes PBF for a flurry to take the round..RJ doesn't connect much but takes the round.

Second round PBF starts to jab and RJ connects with counter lead right hands. PBF tries to counter back and gets tagged with a check RJ style left hook. RJ takes the second

Third round PBF waves Roy in when his back is a mere few feet from the ropes. RJ complies and finds himself spun to the ropes and eats a left hook. RJ tries to counter only to hit air. PBF now has RJ's speed figured out. PBF tries to lean back and counter after a few feints and seems to tag roy more often. PBF takes the third round

Fourth round they circle each other feinting, posing, and trying to bait each other. the crowd starts to boo. RJ not liking that leaps in for a left hook only to hit PBF on the shoulder and gets taked by floyd's counter right uppercut. RJ staggers and floyd turns up the heat unleashing flurries and naile RJ again with a right hand through Rj's gaurd. RJ ducks a left hook from Floyd and nails him with a sold body shot that stops the Pretty boy's flurry. RJ and Floyd smile and now RJ has his back to the ropes waving in Floyd. too little too late. PBF takes the fourth.

Fifth round RJ starts to feint upstairs and hit floyd on the shoulders but intentionally. Floyd tries to counter back but RJ is too far away. RJ scoring more to the body and leaves floyd more flat footed. Final seconds RJ feints to the body and a left hook to the head of PBF leaves Mayweather wobbling. As the round ends they both smile and touch gloves

...pretty much RJ is too much speed and too much power for PBF but i see it a lot closer than superlightweight...7-5 RJJ UD

Mayweather Jr is on the same level if not better than Leonard.

Likewise If Hatton beat Mayweather I put him on the level of Duran. But Duran was a great fighter in many weight classes for a long period time, where you cannot say the same for Hatton who has always been in the same weight class and apparently plans an early retirement.

Floyd will beat roy jones jr! floyd is a much more complete fighter and this is talking if they fought in the same division. Yes floyd can match jones in quickness but not in power.

i agree that floyd is more 'well rounded' than RJ. but i think rj's power and speed will give floyd probems as wel as his unorthodox style. PBF will have it hard trying to unleash lead right hands as roy hardly jabs...floyd also is not the type to pin RJ to the ropes and collect points. they are going to be in the middle of the ring and as far as i know no one can match RJ in the center of the ring at long range. it will be great fun to watch though...

I lean towards Mayweather. Floyd seems to be just that little bit better defensively. However, i think because their styles are somewhat simular e.g speed, ring craft... it could be a bit of a bore.
