back in those days it wasn't uncommon for guys fighting above their weight to dip their handwraps in plaster of paris to even the playing field. there was a whole different breed of toughness back then.

lol at the person who said there is a case for BH being better than Pac due to longevity and they dont think Pac could do what BH does at 46. Well for starters, BH for most of his career has been taken the mickey out of cos of his stinky, horrible way of fighting.

BH is doing quite well now, but probably mostly because his opponents expect to blow him away and take him lightly. But SRL was past it at 30 and i dont see people discredit him for prematurely ageing. Ali didnt do too well into his 30s as well and when his reflexes went.

Pacquiao couldn't do what Hopkins does once Pacquiao's physical attributes have eroded, let alone at 46. Because Pacquiao is nowhere near as well-rounded a fighter as Hopkins is. I'm not saying he's not as effective in the ring, mind you, but much of his effectiveness is based on his speed and athleticism, and he doesn't have the skill set or boxing brain in my opinion to continue to dominate once said physical gifts have eroded.

No opponent of Hopkins expects to blow him away or take him lightly. Literally, none.

This is why Hopkins gets praised for his longevity. Unlike those guys, Hopkins continues to perform at the elite level due to sublime ringcraft.

Pacquiao's rise through the weights is incredible, no doubt about that, but when you're looking at it from an all-time perspective, you have to consider what he did at each of those weights. Take lightweight for instance. He beat up David Diaz, by far the weakest belt holder in that division, a C-level fighter in general... and that's it. It's not like he cleared out any of these divisions. Is this more impressive than completely dominating a single division for over a decade? Maybe. Probably, even. I mean, for a guy who started at 108lbs to fight for a light middleweight title is pretty miraculous. But we'll only truly see just where Pacquiao stands all-time once he retires, especially if he fights Mayweather before doing so.

                    At the age of 30+ Ali has wins over;

                    Ken Norton
                    Joe Fraizer x2
                    George Foreman
                    Chuck Wepner
                    Ron Lyle
                    Jimmy Young
                    Earnie Shavers
                    George Chuvalo
                    Jerry Quarry
                    Floyd Patterson
                    Bob Foster

Not too bad if you ask me.

true true! thats the reason why boxing is the red light district of sports, it cannot be called that way for no reason. chemicals are even use on gloves to irritate the eyes of the opponent, bits of glass and every which way to even the playing field like you said.
