Khan may be better off in the short term as a result of his switch to Primetime but a good business person assesses the larger picture.

The people 50k ppl who bought the PPV on primetime are obviously hardcore boxing and Khan fans.

Sky Sports would have allowed Khan to showcase his skills to a much larger audience and further build up his fan base. So by taking a few hundred thousand less now could mean a gain of millions in the future. Primetime will never have the exposure and audience that sky has so if he is unable to repair the bridges with Sky, he is a very foolish man imo.

Ricky Hatton v Floyd did something like 1.2m UK PPV buys. Thats a gross take of approx £18million. While I dont think Amir will ever be able to replicate Ricky in terms of generating revenue, I think if he keeps winning he could do PPV buys in the region of 250k buys with SKY.

As I said, if he doesnt repair the bridges with Sky, he will lose millions down the road.

even if it happens khan should be able to get it on other channels for a good purse, or even back on Primetime.. hell, i couldnt blame khan for not wanting to deal with Sky after the stunt they pulled this time.
I'm not sure why they would do that.Boxing is not something Sky is really into though from the time Murdock's son took over they started frowning on boxing.I think they can probably only show so much boxing and it's possible they do not have confidence in Khan. They might not think he has any life after Bradley or they were just tired of dealing with Khan's team.Remember even Haye was not on Sky as exciting as he was,Froch would fight some good fights but Sky just didnt care.

Well if khan fights mayweather he might be able to replicate or even exceed hattons buys. those 1.2m buys were because hatton was fighting mayweather.

but its true, unfortunately skys monopoly means that they provide the widest audience to fighters, and ultimately the most cash for a PPV.

yeah its a shame sky isnt into boxing as much as they should be.. i think the haye-harrison PPV got them extra-cautious about doing PPVs because of the public backlash.. so when khans undercard fell apart they just decided to scrap the PPV for fear of the same public reaction if the salvage attempt turned out to be a shambles.. cant believe they'd just drop khan like that though.. after all the money he made them and the new sky subscribers he undoubtedly generated..

They didn't drop Khan, they was going to shift him to none PPV which would cut Khan's purse but would showcase him to a much larger audience and get more people interested in the Bradley fight. 50k buys on Primetime at £15 each is £750,000, after Primetime and Mccloskey take their cut he isn't going to end up with much more than the £250,000 he was offered from Sky.

Khan made the right decision, imagine if he did choose to stick with sky and that same fight happened it would have been a disaster he hardly looked impressive and the fight was ****. Sky would have paid him 150,000 of which 100,000 would have went to mccloskey leaving him with 50,000 plus his HBO Money This way he has made 400-500 thousand from UK ppv + his hbo money minus mccloskes 100,000 AND most importantly never showcased himself in a snoozefest to 700,000 viewers...

Nope sky was going to pay khan £250,000 and pay Mccloskey too from my understanding, he would have also had the HBO money if he fought on Sky. If the fight sold 50k that's only £750,000, after Primetime take their share and Mccloskey Khan made hardly anything extra from switching to Primetime and might have hurt his relationship with Sky in the process.

cant be asked to find the article but it clearly said khan was gonna get 150,000 with ss3. So he got a 50-50 deal with primetime and oscar said he is getting good money from hbo, he lost out around 600-700 thousand IMO but im not his accountant just going by sources...regardless khan made the right move and sky will be all over him come unification time, they've been going on about it forever...
