There will never be another heavyweight like Mike Tyson. Im not saying he was the best ever, but I will say that he was the most exciting heavyweight that ever stepped into a ring. Ali was good but he wasnt explosive like Tyson. The current heavies are nothing but a sack of potatoes.

Both fighters have tremendous respect for each other because they know how great the other really was. We on the other hand don't know shiiit compared to them. If Ali said Mike could knock him out, you better believe it. If Mike said Ali was the greatest, you better believe it. If I had to pick, I'd pick Ali by UD. Tyson on the other hand though, could have been to fast and strong for Ali, you never know. Also, they say Tyson had great timing at his best, and thats exactly the kind of thing you need to catch a fighter like Ali. Either way, this subject that has been debated time and time again just proves people really do believe Tyson was one of the greatest in History. Who ever compares anyone to Ali as much as Tyson? Nobody.

I used to think Ali would toy with Tyson, but not anymore
a prime Ali already had poor defense, and when he would stop moving, he would get hit quite a lot
so called prime Ali (or pre-layoff version) got his body beaten to a pulp by George Chuvalo, his toughest fight to date he said at the time
if prime Ali couldn't hold off Chuvalo, what would Tyson do ?
in his last fight before the layoff, he looked nothing like invincible against Zora Folley, who, although had good skills, was slow on his feet
Folley was landing faily easily, timing Ali, and before the KO, well, Ali looked quite bad
Foreman is not a good example either to try and speculate on a Tyson encounter : Tyson knew how to open up your defense, while Foreman would just **** away without thinking, without varying, without setting you up
Ali trying his rope-a-dope against Tyson : Ali gets brutally ko'ed
pre layoff Ali stands a much better chance because of his ability to move longer and to punch faster, but even that Ali could have been beaten by Tyson, while he could have beaten Tyson too

Fact: Ali was the greatest
Fact: You need to look up Sonny Liston and a prime George Foreman.
Fact: Tyson had serious problem in his prime with boxers who could move and counter. if he went 12 with James Smith and Razor Ruddock, I don't see him KO'n Ali anytime soon.
Fact: Tyson was probably the most over hyped, overrated HW of all time. In boxing you are only as good as your opposition and when Tyson finally fought a good fighter, he was destroyed. (I"m not talking about Buster Douglas)
Tyson was a meteor that blazed through boxing, but much like Prince Naseem his legend grows exponentially as the years go on. In a few years people will be talking about how Mike Tyson killed a bear with his bare hands.
Tyson was very frustrated with him, I don't suppose he had ever expected this sort of "defence". i didn't se the Ruddock fight I heard it was good, but Tyson gave him hell.
I'm not talking "legend" as you might think. I SAW nearly all Tyson's fights at the time they happened, and read all the comments and analysts also. Nothing like Tyson has ever appeared in boxing before. he was Jack Dempsey multiplied about 5 times, and witrh a highly skilled defence also. I believe that he would get close to Ali, as he especially was trained to do just that, since ALL his opponents were taller, some much taller than he was.
All Ali would have been able to do was to also wrap his arms around him, one of his favourite tactics, like Bonecusher. I have no doubt but that Tyson would have won, the PEAK Tyson, managed by D'Amato or his after death associates and with Rooney as his trainer. He had no concept of failure.
Just my opinion.

latter day Ali beats Tyson but doesn't dominate him
tough match but Ali figures him out in the mid rounds to take over
competitive decision or late TKO win for Ali
Tyson would do early damage but fail when he can't KO Ali

I saw an Ali interview on this very subject, here is the transcript
Reporter: So who wins. You in your prime or Tyson in his?
Ali: Rahglegugugugblehrah
Reporter: So you think you would beat Tyson. How would you deal with that power?
Ali: bahraufdouhsadkbdhbb (shakily ****s himself)
Reporter: Oh, I agree, I definitely think you'd win. Do you think speed would be the key?
Ali: (stares into the distance...drool hanging off his lip falls to the floor as he shakes)
Reporter: Oh I understand. (turns to cameraman) can we get a blonde haired white child in here to sit on Ali's lap?
Want to know why Ali is ******ed now? Oh yeah...because his ability to dodge punches was heavily overrated and he took tons of shots to the head in many of his fights, from back when he was young...all the way up to when he quit on his stool. However, this garbage article says, "Ali was fast...so Tyson couldnt hit him...." Uhh...look at Ali...just look at him. He didnt become ******ed because of his speed...he became ******ed because he blocked punches with his skull.

true story, he admitted that during the Champions dinner, it's on Youtube
Liston was very perturbed by all this, as he was extremely superstitious. You know he was born in a tiny shack, near the end of a litter of 26 children or thereabouts, could never read or write, so with his background it was understandable. Although a legbreaker for the mob, he was very childlike and likeable on a personal level. And his big scare was the Bogeyman in the person of a lunatic. He was scared of crazies. This is well known and was confirmed by his friends and his long time wife.
Also, by the time he'd fought Ali, he had only had less than 2 rds in the previous ..what, about 3 years, and feeling that this kid (because of his weigh-in actions) was scared of him
gave him the wrong idea. And he'd trained for only a 2-3 rd fight at most. Way out of condition, normally very slow although very powerful, he was also aged about 37-38. Still the fight was even-steven until the stoppage.
There has always been a controversy about Liston's age all his friends saying that he was much older than the records state. The fact were, when investigated thoroughly by interviewing all his surviving older brothers, sisters, relatives and friends etc of his early days, that he was almost certainly born before 1925, and no one knew exactly how long before. That would have made him at fight time at least 39, and probably over 40. His age was always questioned by analysts and experts going by his appearance and other factors. It was a big topic on and off during his heyday, even long before he beat Patterson.
Just a few extra points.
