A prime Tyson wasn't just about power. He hardly ever got hit flush, with his constant side to side movement, and had the speed, ferocity, and power/will to get inside and inflict pain. He was motivated back then, even if the primary motivation was anger, he was focused. This article is basing it's claims on what Tyson ultimately became, a wasted talent, lacking motivation and only in it for the paycheck. Two completely different fighters. A prime Tyson is problem, for all the greats.

No, the only thing that differs is my scoring of the rounds:

Americans: "Haha, look how Clay dodged Liston's punch by moving to the side. Liston couldn't connect with the full power. Wow, how fast The Clay is!"

Me: "Liston connected, The Clay ran away!"

I understand that the fight was close, but since The Clay was such a coward I gave close rounds to Liston.

You can definitely not deduct from the Liston fights how Tyson would have fared against The Clay.

        Agreed.

        Ali was pacing Sonny.

Indeed, he was the man... until he started fighting guys not named Mitch Green or Pinklon Thomas or Trevor Berbick. When he was matched with crash-test dummies, the dude was unstoppable. But when the dummies punched back, errr... not so much.

My tiebreaker in hypothetical matchups is always "what did they do against the best fighters they ever fought?" In Tyson's case, those guys are Holyfield and Lewis. And last I checked, his record was 0-3 with two KO losses. Mean time, Ali fought Liston, Frazier and Foreman in the teeth of their primes... and was 5-1 with four KO wins.

Mean time... if all Ali was doing with Liston was running in the first fight, then who put all those marks around Sonny's eyes?!?!?

Fact: No boxer on the planet has EVER inspired fear in his opponent like mike tyson(pre-douglas)

Fact: Mike's PRIME bob-and-weeve style would have confused any-and-all opponents and eventually he would have KO'd even the great Ali

              Mike & Ali = the greatest !
Those are not facts only opinions.

              Fact: Ali was the greatest

Fact: You need to look up Sonny Liston and a prime George Foreman.

Fact: Tyson had serious problem in his prime with boxers who could move and counter. if he went 12 with James Smith and Razor Ruddock, I don't see him KO'n Ali anytime soon.

Fact: Tyson was probably the most over hyped, overrated HW of all time. In boxing you are only as good as your opposition and when Tyson finally fought a good fighter, he was destroyed. (I"m not talking about Buster Douglas)

Tyson was a meteor that blazed through boxing, but much like Prince Naseem his legend grows exponentially as the years go on. In a few years people will be talking about how Mike Tyson killed a bear with his bare hands.

Ali said in an interview that he wasn't a power puncher but he was a dancer. He said that Tyson would catch him and knock him out.

Tyson was elusive with phenomenal footwork, perfected head movement and tremendous power in both hands. Ali wouldn't have an easy time landing on the low bobbing and weaving Tyson, who had handspeed that rivaled that of even Ali.

I think Tyson could beat him but I also believe that Ali could beat Tyson. In a fight like that you never know what could happen.

Tyson is a throwback to the great fighters of the past such as Dempsey, Marciano, Frazier, Ali, etc... There hasn't been a fighter like him since him.

Ali said that once Tyson hit him it would be over, but he would have to catch him first... My guess is that he would eventually catch Ali much in the same way that Frazier did.

As far as h2h matchups go, I think Tyson can beat any HW in history.

if ali and tyson fought 10 times ali would probably win 6 or 7 times and not because he was taller or had the reach (every fighter tyson fought had the height or reach or both) but because he was possible the most intelligent boxer to ever step foot in the ring and probably would have took control of the last 3 or 4 fights. but to say tyson wouldn't have a chance is absurd. tyson's foot and hand speed was second only to ali and not by that much and his punching power was only matched by foreman and liston. so this guy doesn't know as much about boxing as he think he knows.

Ali would've shown no fear of Tyson. He would just need to use his reach and stay on the outside to win.

Oh, and what I left out of my post is another crucial factor: According to stories leading all the way back to his amateur days, Tyson always had problems with opponents who refused to lie down or be intimidated and throughout his career allowed plenty of guys to hang around or compete with him that shouldn't have. That factor works very well in Ali's favor, because the fact is, despite facing very good competition over the course of his career, no one ever got an easy fight out of Ali, let alone an easy W.
