The Ring isn't always Lineage but when they consider someone a Ring Champion they cosinder them the Lineal Champion. Which first and foremost it's just simply confusing, when tryign to seperate Lineal Champions.

It is as bad as it seems because a mass of people will be calling the winner of that fight the 'Lineal Champion' and If Pacqiauo does win it, which is a likely scenario, he will be known by an amount of people as a 5 division Lineal Champion. Which is just not right. Same goes for if Shane does pull off an upset.
no, it was simply created to clear up the confusion of all the corrupt ABC titlists and to crown someone who is viewed as the best in the division
In 2002, The Ring attempted to clear up the confusion regarding world champions by creating a championship policy. It echoed many critics' arguments that the sanctioning bodies in charge of boxing championships had undermined the sport by pitting undeserving contenders against undeserving "champions", and forcing the boxing public to see mismatches for so-called "world championships". The Ring attempts to be more authoritative and open than the sanctioning bodies' rankings, with a page devoted to full explanations for ranking changes. A fighter pays no sanctioning fees to defend or fight for the title at stake, contrary to practices of the sanctioning bodies. Furthermore, a fighter cannot be stripped of the title unless he loses, decides to move to another weight division, or retires.

There are currently only two ways that a boxer can win The Ring's title: defeat the reigning champion; or win a box-off between the magazine's number-one and number-two rated contenders (or, sometimes, number-one and number-three rated). A vacant Ring championship is filled when the number-one contender in a weight-division battles the number-two contender or the number-three contender (in cases where The Ring determines that the number-two and number-three contenders are close in abilities and records).

That highlights more confusion in my eyes. The Ring can idenfity a 'best fighter in a division' thus, a Lineal Champion. But, they aren't always a Lineal Champion. That still confirms that when there is a Ring Champion they are considered the Lineal Champion by The Ring, right?

And they have changed the rules stated in that segment before when having a Ring Champion.

Either way, I'm not really bothered. All I care about is this fight not being considered for a 'Ring title', 'Lineal Title' or any title that isn't Pac's strap he holds know. As it really shouldn't be.

Pac is the lineal and ring champ at 147. You can't make the argument that Floyd is because he will be 1 year inactive which disqualifies him from being champ.

May 7th will be for the Ring and Lineal Title.

                Should it be? No.

Will it be? Very much possible at this rate.

                  Cliff,

Can you give us your take on this? ^^

How do you handle inactivity in your rankings? How long can someone remain inactive without losing their ranking? How long can someone remain inactive and still remain the linear champ?

It should be for a ring and lineal. Its not Pacs fault that Floyd wouldnt fight and Berto lost. Now its b.s because Pac will collect another lineal? No one is to blame. It is what it is. Haters always hate anyway.

No. It doesn't. retirement or vacating. That ends a lineage without losing. This time, Floyd has done neither and, since he came out of retirement, stopped the top go in Mosley, and never lost the belt in the ring, it was as good as reclaiming his line. Dempsey once went and ****ed around in Hollywood for a couple years. He was, in theory, still active. Tunney eventually whooped him.

See above. In my ratings, that's how I apply. I need to make a call soon on Darchinyan at 115. He's not been active there but it's not impossible he could move back down if he loses to Perez. If Cazares-Narvaez got signed, that might force a call.
