    Why Berto Lost To Ortiz

Because he allowed Ortiz to back him up for most of the fight. I watched the fight again carefully. Anytime Berto came forward he was winning the fight. Anytime he went backwards he was losing.

    My video on this topic.

    Always back southpaws up.

He lost for a number of reasons. The style and the passion with which Ortiz fought. Berto's inability to absorb Victors shots. But the main reason was pretty simple; Victor was first.

He threw first, he landed first and he got Berto's respect first. If they fought again and he backed Ortiz up, he'd still have to throw and land first and be able to take his power the whole fight. It's a tough task.

He allowed Ortiz to back him up or did Ortiz impose his will and back him up? Ortiz wouldnt be denied last night lets give credit where its due.

Ortiz hurt him in the first round and bertos legs never recovered. When Ortiz got hurt later his legs seemed fine. Those punches took it out of berto. He has been hurt by people with less power.

Ortiz has been calling Maidana out, that would be a great rematch.

Allowed? Really, I saw Ortiz forcing him back.

This is like saying he lost because he allowed him to hit him on the face.

Ortiz's confidence would have crumbled had Berto pressed the attack. You have to go forward against southpaws no matter what. The last thing you do is allow them to come forward. When they come forward they gain confidence. But fans just see confidence without knowing that it's coming from the fact that their opponent is allowing them to back them up.

Berto held his ground as best he could, the statement of "He was a man possessed" was very accurate. Ortiz had that insane fire in his eyes and win at all costs look that people wish Lebron James could get, Ortiz performed well. Berto did as well, despite having a bad fight he still fought great and had to use all his heart and every trick he had to survive and still try to win himself in the final round. Had little respect for either fighter going in and came out thinking both were great fighters. Considering alot of people considered Ortiz an overhyped propect that quit and didn't have it in his blood to fight like a champion, then you had Berto who was widely regarded as protected and clearly came into the fight thinking it was a give me fight was forced to brawl and stepped his game up to survive. Great fight I want to see part 2. Respect for both fighters for a hollywood style fight.

You always go forward no matter if you're hurt or tired. If you're coming forward they don't know that you're hurt or tired. In fact they'll likely think the opposite. If you're hurt or tired and start backing then you're really in deep ****

I agree with dwyer that it's not mainly about heart or being "possessed". It's about mathematics and strategy. Confidence and fighting like you're possessed will develop once you see the results of implementing the proper strategy. Once you see your plan working you grow in spirit and confidence and that's why Ortiz was fighting like he was.
