That was Kirkland's 3'rd fight since he got out of prison & it wasn't like he fought as soon as he got out, he trained 1st then fought..So he was in shape, the only difference is that now he's campaigning at middleweight..¿Why is it so hard for u to see this?
when i say all i mean all of his meaningful fights. yes he had a couple tune ups over the weight but that doesn't make him a middleweight. the guy lost 5 times at 154. how is he gonna have success at 160? kirkland isn't a legit middleweight either even though he had fights above 154. the guy said it himself that he wasn't in the best shape and was still gradually getting in better shape but i guess you just ignore that.

how can you compare jacobs to kirkland and say it's the same? jacobs is a middleweight prospect and kirkland is a junior middleweight prospect. kirkland just got out of prison and was still fighting tuneups while jacobs was ready to fight for a title.

The bottom line is some on here thinks that Ishida should be given a title shot based on ONE fight!!! Not 3 or 4 fights or even TWO! Some even complained about Manny selections but all his fights are against top guys in his divison with the execption of Margarito but Margs was at least 5 inches taller and 17 pounds heavier so there was at least some difficulty. Hatton 140 Champ, Cotto Welter Champ, Clottey top 5 Welter at the time. Margs former Welter champ fighting at 150. Mosley currently #3 Welter. We all know what he did at 122, 126, and 130. So how are people dogging Pac's choices when Sergio fought Williams at a catchweight and his last opponent was a 154 pound champion and now his promoter is throwing Ishida's name out there. What about Pirog or hell Jacobs for that matter before Ishida...

ishida has one win against a junior middleweight prospect who just got out of prison and was still in the tuneup phase of his career. all the rest of his meaningful fights have been at 154 and he's lost 5 times.

pirog is undefeated, in the top 10, knocked out a legitimate middleweight prospect and has a title.

        hmmmm let's go for ishida!

I'd actually favor a Rubio fight at this point. He has the most experience and is a legit, proven opponent. Lemeuix, well..lol, and Pirog looked like trash in his last fight. Whoever though whether it's the 2 afore mentioned, Manfredo, Ishida or whoever...Martinez will win. Make all the fights happen so he can clean up shop...a fight every 3 months, 4 fights a year.

dibella is doing what a promoter does. and thats to make the fighter the most money.there's no risk for martinez in this fight.this guy after one fight does'nt deserve a title shot like this.he has'nt earned anything.i guess they feel sorry for him because of the incident in japan.

martinez didn't want to fight pirog after he looked spectacular either.

I didn't say he was going to be successful at 160, I was just correcting what u posted, when u said that Ishida has never fought at middleweight(u didn't say anything about meaningful fights)& u also said that Ishida has fought lower than 154, which is also wrong..& ¿where the hell do I mention Jacobs in my comment? I never mentioned him..I did say that Kirkland was in shape, cause to Me he looked in shape & I've been watching Kirkland for a while..& I didn't ignore anything that Kirkland said, cause Kirkland just finished getting annihilated by a feather fisted underdog, & Kirkland was looking for an excuse, so of course when Kellerman ask him the question about his new trainer, he said he wasn't in the best shape to try not to look as bad as he actually did..That was the PERFECT excuse & Kellerman sort of coached him into answering that with his question..

actually he has fought below 154 so you are wrong this time. i didn't say he fought below junior middle i said he fought below 154 which he has. since you nitpick so hard you should have seen this.

Knocking someone out in the first round says more about your opponent than it does of you.
If Ishida was considered a journeyman, with 0 chance of winning, then what exactly is he now all of a sudden?

Ishida does deserve every second of his 15 minutes of fame, the guy deserves it. But this is still a joke fight for Martinez.
