Comments Thread For: Peterson: Black Fighters Get Little Support From Black Fans

Reading through this entire topic was surely a learning experience, some ****** comments here and there but that's to be expected lol. The only sports I enjoy watching are Boxing, NBA, and MMA. I agree with people who said that boxing just isn't as accessible as other sports are. Cablevision has gotten expensive, and since we re-upped that $99 deal under my name, that's the only reason I'm able to watch "Friday Night Fights" and Boxeo on Telemundo lol. At least when i don't have TNT or TBS anymore, I'll still have NBA-TV to keep up with basketball, but the same can't be said for boxing. Since the Mosley-Vargas fight, I've had to go online to watch and download fights.
Only thing I can say about Peterson is, he should just stay motivated and win, that should be the only thing on his mind. Beat Cayo, he's up for a title shot against Judah, beat him, he puts himself in the position to fight Bradley and Khan. I mean, his first major fight was against Bradley in late 09, so he's still kinda new. Once he gets more well-known names under his belt and the money starts flowing, his outlook will brighten.

It's hard to build a black fighter in most urban city's for some reason, but watching sports in general not many black fans in the seats in any sport. In Gary Indiana there's a baseball field and all summer all you see is white folks going to the game's in an all black city.

I still think that it has to do with the way black fighters are being promoted in boxing today. Promoters who are not Top Rank or GBP are taking the quick cash, from HBO or site fees and putting fights where they should not be. Not to mention, you want to be known, you have to stay freaking active!!!!
These are just a few things I see wrong with the promoting of these really good black fighters.
--why in the hell was Bradley/Alexander in Detroit? It had no business being in Detroit. Yes the promoters got a handsome fee site, but that fight in St. Louis could probably had drawn 15,000 fans.
Or why was Paul Williams fighting Kermit Cintron in California? And why is he fighting once or twice a year? This really kills me because PW is an exciting all action fighter. This guy makes great fights, he should be loved by the fans.
Why is Chad Dawson not being more active? Fought twice in 2009 once in 2010. How are you going to build a fanbase?
Andre Berto has not been promoted by Gary Shaw the way he needed to. 900 tickets sold in his hometown is ridiculous. He is taking his money from HBO and not building a fan base. Then he wonders why he can't get a big fight.

I can't explain why Paul isn't liked more he is an all action guy, who wouldn't want to see him but for whatever reason he is not a draw and neither is Cintron so it wouldn't have mattered where they fought.
I wishh Bad Chad was more active too, you are right ppl forget about fighters when they are inactive.
Berto doesn't fight anyone but he is pretty active and his style is boring because he holds alot, those are the only explanations I can give for him not having fans.

But you can take a Mexican American or Mexican fighter, a Polish/Polish American fighter, or Puerto Rican fighter with a decent name put them in any city with a relative minority presence and they'll come out to support.
I can't really think of a reason other than African Americans just don't follow boxing as much.
i agree and disagree the problem is fighters are representing countries not their ethnic or racial groups if theres a cuban person thats black the whole cuba is gonna be behind them and theres a puerto rican star and their a blanco mullato or negro the people will be there...
american boxing fans are some of the most lamest unsupportive fans period and they flip flop on you quick.. when i seen adamek fight arreola the poles were all there from poland with flags and **** and mexicans were there for chris...im sure some americans of polish descent were there too but i wont hold my breath on that because they are too americanized anyway.
its sad its got to be the black american guy vs another guys country lol....i also hate people use the word black and think its exclusively for african americans only...
people are in the crowd with flags, americans dont do that when an opposition from another country comes in.. the only reason the FMW fight seemed a little patriotic is because ricky hatton was from britain and we know americans and brits have this small rivalry going on
if this lamont peterson is counting on americans or should i say african americans to be out in full force # FAIL he's better off building an AMERICAN AUDIENCE AND USE NATIONALITY over race(black) and ethnicity(african american)

The eason is simple. Blacks just run and hug for half the fight, who wants to see that?? Blacks from back in the day had more guts. But since whitaker and leonard begain with that borin " slick " style that is basically being a coward, blacks bore. Mexicans and asians give you wars.
