it doesnt take much to drop someone, a fast & unseen punch will drop ANYBODY... i wouldnt write off kirkland for this, but this is a wake-up call. he needs to tighten up a lot.

classic case of a fighter looking past another. kirkland had no respect for ishida.... kirkland got KO'd by a pillow fisted boxer.

cortez did hold the guy down though.

Ishida didn't let Kirkland get into his rhythm but rather took the fight right to him and smothered James with speed and precision. The speed behind them accurate punches stunned Kirkland big time. ESPECIALLY considering that Kirkland has no defense.

Cortez put on knee on Kirkland's chest almost to keep him down. He was probably thinking like damn. Kirkland was getting dinged up and remember that Cortez was in the ring watching it closely and like someone said on here previously. Kirkland was trying to survive after the first knock down.

Kirk was doing pretty good in the beginning moving his head and all, but his biggest mistake was keeping his chin out there to be hit. One has to wonder if he was just testing himself to see how much of a shot he could take and keep moving forward. Perhaps, not giving Ishida's power much respect.

Ishida on his part did very well putting his combos together.

Remains to be seen if Kirk will be the same after that one. Getting knocked down three times with the same shot in the same spot has to do something to you.

All of a sudden The 11:45 Kirkland Express seems empty. Everybody jumped off at the last stop and decided to walk the rest of the way.

Big difference. Prescott was a heavy handed, undefeated dangerous puncher. Ishida was a feather fisted guy with 6 defeats and 7 knockouts.

All Cortez did by keeping Kirkland down was give Kirkland an excuse. Now Kirkland can say "I wasn't hurt", "I could've continued", etc but we will now never know. It didn't look good for him but he should have been given the chance to get up. Kirkland does have devastating power and if threw a bomb or haymaker and caught Ishida, he could've changed the whole fight. The one thing about Ishida however every fight he lost was a 12 round decision, he'd never been KO'd. So, in short, we will have to wait to see if Kirkland has any kind of recuperative powers...
