This is the same thing I said about Cotto. Steward is an excellent trainer, but he's taming Cotto's style too much and taking away Cotto's best weapon. His relentless killer instict. He's trying to make Cotto a patient boxer rather than perfecting his skills as boxer/puncher which he naturally is.
Boxing fans are the most bandwagon ruthless fans on earth KIRKLAND WAS NOT EXPOSED!!

Kirkland musta been partying the night before. "Whats that trainer?? I got a fight tomorro'? Ok, lemme just have one more beer and then I go to sleep!"Poor sob.
Btw, what happened to his trainer after the fight?!? He ok??Comment

He has always had a suspect chin, he was doing all kinds of crazy training with Anne Wolfe before, now he is doing cupcake training in comparison. He likely got beaten up in jail too, so he is even softer and lacks more confidence than before.Comment

You serious? This man obliterated and walked through Vera & Julio's best punches. Goes to jail for 2 years, takes a fight against a game live fighter with 3 weeks to train, loses and now he's exposed? GET THE **** OUTTA HERE!!!
I ain't making no excuses either, I said Ishida will give him a tough test and cause some problems just because he was never stopped. Except I didn't expect it that soon. His chin didn't fail him his defense did. he would have gotten back up. Brawlers always put themselves at risk to put be floored by being caught off balance. Ishida was too clean and too crisp for him tonight.
And I'll leave the rest for Natas. If your an NFL fan and think Plaxico Burress will be a monster as soon as he steps onto that field from jail after being away a year your sadly mistaken. Same thing...Comment

Some are saying Kirkland's chin was exposed but it was more a case of his defense getting exposed, he looked very easy to hit, but very willing and able to keep getting up from knockdowns.Comment
-
He was KOed by pillow fisted Japenese version of Malignaggi, that's pretty glass jaw.Comment
-
He was never really "KO'd"...he was TKO'd.
He was getting up from the third KD when it was stopped.
His chin is not the real problem (though its a part of it) it's his lack of defense, IMO. But either way I don't care that much I was never that invested in Kirkland as a fighter, or as a person and I never heard of the other guy, so oh well.Comment

Ishida owned a piece of the WBA 154 lb. title not too long back. Everything is clear in hindsight, but I don't know why GBP was treating Ishida like the first two cupcakes they served Kirkland, Ashandi Gibbs and Jhon Berrio. I think they were literally hoping that Kirkland was superman and unaffected by the jail sentence.
GBP failed.Comment

yeah I've been a fan of Kirkland since I saw him live and wondered, "wow who is that beast?!"
in this day and age it's rare to find a fighter with Kirkland's brawler mentality, his determination and hunger in the ring. Most young american fighters these days have that almost pussy amateur style - not much power, don't like to get hit and just try to "score" with occasional shots. Some of them quit when the going gets tough (Alexander for example). James was the opposite of that, he entered the ring with one intention and that was KO.
so to me, it's confusing that some people are actually joyful that he got TKO'd. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want kirkland to succeed, as his style of fighting is what people love to see.Comment

Exposed is precisely what happened, he fought a couple tuneups which he was supposed to easily win and his chin and defense were shown to be lacking.Comment
