I agree. A clean left hook is a thing of beauty...especially when it leads to the loss of consciousness.Comment

Many of the left hooks shown in the poster's pictures are really not left hooks, they are left handed punches which happened to connect.
A true left hook is something special, and as the Topic Starter comments, the best punch in boxing. It was originally meant to be an "unseen" punch, being the finishng touch to a well thrown, properly positioned "left-right" punches. It's supposed to come unseen, as a surprise, and years ago was never thrown as a leading punch, as it is today. It was a FINISHER. We all used to learn this in the gym on the heavy bag....left, right, and left hook to end the combo, and the opponent.
The most beautiful (and I mean beautiful) left hooks I have ever seen were those of Floyd Patterson, who used to throw them often as individual punches. he actually leaped into them, with all his power, and were usually his finisher. Killer punches, and Patterson was really only a blown up middleweight.Comment

The picture in the Topic Starter's post is not a genuine left hook, just a left handed punch. The feet are ALL wrong.
Look at Trinidad's great left hook where his feet are positioned perfectly with his left foot coming forward with his punch, to deliver the greatest power.Comment
