Wasn't Corrales perceived to be elite and in his prime when Floyd fought him? We can go revisionist and talk about what happened to Corrales afterwards but we're speaking of when they fought. I remember it being a pick'em fight. Also, what's considered "elite". There's some qualifiers that need to be addressed.
Floyd Mayweather has never beaten an elite fighter in his prime

floyd's got a jail term over his head at all times
i'm not seeing you bringing it up.
corrales wasn't an elite fighter historically, but he was absolutely an elite at the time of the mayweather fight. floyd was not supposed to drop him several times and knock him out.
looking at the rankings, corrales was actually the top 130 lber in the world from what i can tell.
not elite doe

Saying Corrales wasn't elite is like saying Golovkin isn't elite now.Wasn't Corrales perceived to be elite and in his prime when Floyd fought him? Corrales was considered to be one of the 5 best fighters in Boxing, undefeated, #1 at 130 and was knocking out everything in his path with ease.
If that's not elite then what is?
Jose Luis Castillo the greatest Lightweight of his era. That's not an elite fighter?
Undefeated Ricky Hatton not an elite fighter even though he'd been on the top 10 P4P list for years?
What's the standard for "elite"? Prime ATG's only? If so then how many fighters have wins over prime elite fighters?Comment

So, because you believe he has, that makes it a fact? It's a fact he's won multiple titles, because there is actual proof of that. What you're suggesting is subjective. I doubt you understand the difference.Last edited by El-blanco; 11-12-2015, 02:33 PM.Comment

Damn shame how you guys sleep on Diego Corrales. He would have been hyped to the max on some Matthysse/GGG type of hype if NSB was around back then.Comment

Although his top wins: Castillo, unbeaten Freitas and Casamayor were post-Mayweather, so the version Floyd boxed hadn't achieved those things, so there is that.Last edited by Box-Office; 11-12-2015, 02:42 PM.Comment

He reminds me of the hype broner got. Once he stepped up he got beaten badly on multiple occasions and won a few big fights. That's not elite.Pound for pound rankings at year end 2000:

And 'whether you like it or not' people won't agree to whatever your opinion is. They have their own. If you're that precious that that upsets you so much, go and bump an old thread about it. Oh, you already have.Comment
