Hew won't "bench" him, he'll treat him the same as always. He's building him up successfully and now, at the verge of big money success, Golden Balls just happens to "drop in" and try to steal him.
Golden Balls has done that a lot, always has, always will because Oscar is not really a businessman, he's a boxer and very few boxers have real "smarts". Schaefer is a banker with no boxing background, and doesn't really understand the boxing promotion business. That's why they are always getting themselves into legal trouble. That it's often with Top Rank is because Top Rank is the premier promoter, and have the best line-up.
And Oscar is jealous. His main declared ambition is NOT to improve boxing (he doesn't and hasn't) but to be a billionaire, that is what he wants to be. I've heard him say this at least 3 times on TV. He's even been asked about it by interviewers.
So he "cuts corners" and gets himself into trouble. The most recent being his Mayweather and family law case, his Moreno chase, and his Donaire fizzle.
Donaire's legal, fully enforceable contract with Top Rank runs until end of June 2013, and, unless there is a clause which allows Donaire to "buy himself out" at a figure to be agreed by the parties, or arbitrated (?) There's no way for, him to scrap it. He signed it, is making money with it, and is on the brink of making lots more, Soooo, now Oscar wants to steal him, and got caught.
What else is new about Golden Balls ?? oscar was a very good fighter but I don't admire either his business acumen nor ethics. His "ambush" of Manny P still sticks in my mind. Reminded me too much of how Don King does it.
