The purse split enforced by the WBA was 55-45, which means the figure you've seen is way out.

You really think Maidana keeps all that money or that he's set for life?

I know this is a bull**** fight, but I begrudge Maidana nothing. Take it to those exploiting Erik's crazy heart and bribing him into the ring.
That fight was no better than this one.

That guy is hella fkn tough, he is hard as nails.

Jeez, look what Ortiz and Khan did to him, yet they couldn't stop him.

Khan dropped him with a shot that would have finished a lot of fighters, and Ortiz did everything but run him over with a car..... but nope, that didn't stop him.

Nobody has ever questioned his heart, or his intestinal fortitude.

I truly believe that he would fight anyone, anywhere, anytime.

          So, why Eric ?

Sure, the name, and sure, the payday..... but we love Eric, and don't want Maidana to eat him

It is hard to watch your old heroes walk down that road bro, especially considering the kind of punishment that chino can dish out. Eric most likely does not belong in the ring, let alone at 140, let alone in with Maidana.

Nobody is hating on Maidana. Dave is doing a serious job of putting together a case for charging Marcos with cherry-picking a faded legend who will be badly outmatched in order to stack his resume', that's all.

The vast majority of people thought Barrera would beat Khan, who was not even a contender back then, he was an unproven prospect coming off a disastrous loss. And Barrera was still considered a live contender and was the WBO's #1 ranked contender at the time. You can't compare that situation with the Maidana-Morales one now. Maidana isn't an unproven prospect, he's a top 3 Jr Welterweight. And Morales is not considered a top Jr Welterweight contender by anybody. Everyone knows Morales has been shot for the past 4 years.

There are no Maidana haters in this thread. Maidana is one of my favourite fighters. But taking the Morales fight was a bitch move on his part, and anyone who defends any fighter who indulges in such behaviour deserves no respect. When Maidana next fights a credible opponent, I'll still root for him. But what he's doing now is just wrong.

There was no purse split. They agreed terms before the WBA made the conditions. Maidana got $550,000 and when you take out the expenses like training in vegas, trainer, promoter, etc, he is probably left with 250-300K. Hardly a millionaire. But this is just to get the facts right, I am not really a fan of the Maidana-Morales fight.

You're rewriting history or mis-remembering it. Khan's team was claiming that Maidana was pricing himself out of the fight and were talking about fighting someone else, because Maidana was insisting on the purse split he was entitled to under the WBA's rules. Eventually Maidana had enough and wrote to the WBA and asked them to intervene. The WBA responded by ordering a purse bid with a 55/45 split and made it clear they would strip Khan if he didn't comply. Two days later the fight was signed.

I remember this sequence of events. It didn't go to the purse bid did it? GBP got it all done before the purse bid. How else can you explain the fact that Khan got paid around a $1 mill and Maidana got paid $550,000. There was no 55/45 split.
