I was re-watching some Gamboa/Lopez fights last night. Memory can play tricks on you, so I was doing some A-B comparisons. I was surprised at some of the things I saw; sometimes they went against what I thought I "knew" about these fighters.

JuanMa is slower than I recalled. He's a good technician, but he gets hit often and has been rocked a few times. He moves around the ring very well. Lopez is tougher, gutsier and more resourceful than his detractors would have you think. He's been knocked for having trouble with Rogers Mtagwa, but there are two ways you can look at it. Yes, Lopez was taken to the brink by a journeyman, but it was amazing to watch him finish while literally out on his feet. He showed great will. I was very impressed by this. In a war, there's no questioning his heart and presence of mind...I don't care what anybody says.

Yuriorkis has better defense than many believe. Some people haven't updated their data on the current state of Gamboa's "D". Here's an interesting observation: I, too, notice that Yuri leaves his head wide open when delivering a flurry of punches. However, at such times, Yuri is throwing blazing 4-5 punch combinations with power. It's extremely difficult to take advantage of the "opening" when you're trying not to leave your own head open to a known KO artist. You might say that some of Gamboa's defense lies in his offense.

JuanMa is, obviously, a very dangerous opponent. Only the haters will state otherwise. This is still a difficult result to predict. But, after making some reassessments, I'm feeling just a bit more confident in Gamboa's chances.

I think JuanMa's ability and willingness to brawl and fight will be his downfall if he takes that road.

JuanMa has great timing, he needs to use that to stay outside with Gamboa. If he chooses to exchange the way he did with Matgwa or Marquez, he get's laid out.

As far as Gamboa's D, I think he does leave himself open but that happens a lot with fighters that have such natural ability. They are so confident in their natural ability that they disregard the punches coming at them because they feel like they can just move out of the way so easily.

This is a huge test for Gamboa and it's the only fight the public really wants to see at 126, Arum needs to get this done.

Re-watching Lopez-Mtagwa, it was clear that JuanMa started the bout with the intention of fighting on the outside. Lopez couldn't keep Rogers at a distance, so he was forced to exchange. Both fighters were rocked during these exchanges. I asked myself, "If JuanMa couldn't keep Mtagwa at bay, how can he be expected to do so against Gamboa?"

Versus Marquez, JuanMa was more willing to trade. This was obviously in the plans, because Lopez wasn't forced to engage. JuanMa was rocked just as often as Rafa. Once again, Lopez showed grit.

It will be interesting to see the game plan the Lopez camp has for Yuri. I have to agree, if JuanMa gets hit too often by Gamboa, it's going to be a short night.

Remember this though, Rafa is slower, older and smaller than JuanMa. He isn't the same he was even 3 yrs ago and he hurt JuanMa badly. If the ref doesn't step in for that foul, I think he goes down.

Gamboa is another animal all together. He is much stronger than Rafa at this stage and way, way faster.

JuanMa will need to fight a very smart fight.

Real Talk, Gamboa Has the Speed Advantage over Lopez, but I feel Lopez will Throw a bomb and hit Y's Chin and drop him a few times. Gamboa's been dropped by lesser opponents. But Ive seen Lopez hurt by Lesser Opponents too though

Tough Fight for both. I think Lopez's Power will be the key for victory over the speedy Gamboa

My opinion, it comes down to gamboa's speed vs lopez' power.
