Is it true that europeans box differently and that there footwork is more evolved these days????
more evolved isnt the way to put it, good footwork is the same thing now as it was 50 years ago. however more often than not european fighters do have better footwork than american fighters.

i thought it was common knowledge the caliber of boxing trainers have went way down in the states. fighters dont stick with the basics anymore, they overlook the fundamentals and it costs them down the road. in europe the amateur program is much better too, so when they turn pro they have a significant advantage over american fighters who arent as well schooled.

Can you show me a link to a trainer and/or analyst who supports that view? Cause you're the first person I've seen who thought this.

Yeah, it all comes down to which punches the fighter relies on more. Guys who work behind a jab will usually have a better balance then guys who throw lots of hooks and try to knock you out. European(although you will probably refer to german school of boxing rather then eastern european which is much more heterogenious) boxing depends more on straight punches and countering with straights, where hooks will usually come as a last punch of the combination and would be very short. Therefore working mostly with straight punches will yild a fighter better balance.

Also, to the poster who says punching downwards diminishes power.

A simple test, what is easiest? To push things upwards, in horizontal dimension or downwards?

European Fighters seem more stiff...I'm not using that as a negative...There are a lot of advantages to practicing a repetitive efficient form..Just like the Animal World Stiff frames are better at producing energy efficient movements..So they can travel very long distances with less energy..Horse's and Dogs are examples of more rigid body types.Lions and bears have a more flexible frame and gait..All can move very fast..But one form sacrifices efficiency for Flexibility the other Flexibility to efficiency..
