We all know Margo had NO INTENSIONS ON LOOSING THAT NIGHT. Cotto never tried clinching, watch the fight. Clinching doesnt make you a better or worse boxer. its just part of boxing and i cant even mention how many fights are won over clinching and not letting the other guy do any work. its boxing.. look at Mayweather with his superb defense.. alot of ppl boo him, but guess what?? its a smart way of boxing.. defend yourself at all times and beat the crap out of the other guy.

He didn't do it often but there are two rallies (8th round and 10th, I believe) where Margo shoulders through his defense and lands five or six uppercuts in a row. Cotto stumbles forward and tries to tie up, which I've never seen him do before or since, Margarito just throws him back and keeps pounding away. And obviously Margarito didn't go there to lose, but he showed a different kind of determination that night is what I meant. It would have been next to impossible to stop him.

Clinching is last resort for Cotto. He will happily lay on the ropes doing his poor attempt at a sholder roll whilst his opponent opens up on him. Hence why he struggles with pressure.

It was rare but he did try to clinch against Margarito at times, but he's so God terrible at clinching it wasn't working.

It isn't that he should have tried to clinch, It's he should have learned to clinch.

There were times in the Margarito fight were he really had to hold on, laying against the ropes was the worst thing to do. The fact he can't hold on to anyone showed late in that fihgt.

If he knew how to clinch and did clinch he could have beat Margarito that night, wouldn't have been easy, but he could have won.

Shame he didn't and still doesn't know how to.

...what fight were you watching?? I saw some clinches throughout the fight...get off your fanboy mentality and re-watch it unbiasly and you will see what REALLY happened.

Easier to say now after Mosley laid out the blueprint.
