why does martinez want to fight cotto?

isn't he one of the no-hopers that pac already beat???

I think martinez has a point about marg and mosley. I was against pac fighting both guys. I prefer him fighting berto even though berto doesn't deserve it.

but pac already destroyed cotto and martinez wants a piece of that? that's dumb.

why don't martinez want to fight pirog or kirkland or sturm?

I hope he doesn't duck them.

Because Cotto is the #1 rated Jr middleweight and he wants to move down.

Money and familiarity with the casual boxing fans also would be my guess.

You know, you are right to point out that he wants to fight Cotto, and yet he openly critizes Pac for fighting "no-hopers". It's contridictory.

From a financial perspective, I don't think Martinez is the ducking kind; I personally think he finally sees his own worth from his resent streak and making the demands for better paydays i.e., Cotto, Pac, Mayweather etc.

Martinez blasts through Kirkland IMO, Sturm & Pirog would have more risk little reward.

The third biggest payday behind May and Pac.

Cotto's the number 2 attraction in boxing right now (active), payday would be huge for both fighters, the fight would be awesome, and it would get Martinez a lot more fans since those two guys are classy.

You have to remember since Sergio has been winning big fights, his name is growing, he wants big names to add to his resume, so if he does beat Cotto, and other big name in the sport, He'll be the guy everyone's chasing, like Pacquiao....

I agree that he contradicts himself but calling out Pac will render him a great payday and if he defeats him will also set him atop of the p4p list which has been a dream of his. Cotto will just give him a payday. Is all about the money these days. Sorry, but if I were in Martinez's shoes, I would do the same. It might not make sense to boxing fans, but it does make sense monetary wise.
