It's difficult to assess what really happened, and when. It all happened very quickly, even in slo-mo. However, your explanation is pretty much in line with what I see.
Vitali Klitschko doesn't need anyone to praise this "KO 1". His career speaks for itself. If the fight wasn't stopped in the first, he probably would've beaten Solis anyway, possibly by late KO. Why are some people so threatened that Vitali's victory was hastened by his opponent's knee injury?

There goes all the arguments saying it was a KO.
I like Vitali, he's one of a smart heavyweight boxer who used his size and height advantage very well...I was also impressed when he last fought Lewis with a good fight...
But this was a different fight for him against Solis even he won this bout with a TKO this was too early to judge for what the outcome will be before the accident happened...
Too bad for Solis because it seems he has a good performance against Vitali and connected more shots than Vitali before the accident (knee injury) happens...I believe Solis is leading for a short time and has a potential to beat Vitali, before that punch landed but not enough for a knock out even Vitali himself have said it...
