More physically demading. MMA or Boxing?

While browsing thru askmen.com, I came across an article that listed the top 10 most physically demanding sports in the world, and can you believe that boxing didnt even make the list! They had mma/ufc as #1. They even had sports like soccer, rowing, swimming, and rugby making the list and not boxing.

    Thoughts?

Boxing is 12 round of punching of the head.

MMA is 3 rounds of fighting.

Boxing should easily be #1. Decathlon athletes should be 2nd.

spoken like a bunch of guys who have never seen an arturo gatti fight

nobody has died in mma.. knock on wood.

a sad fact of boxing is that it's absolutely within the realm of possibility for a fighter to walk into the ring
                  and never walk out.
they sustain that sort of trauma
and at the top they are in condition and experienced enough to sustain terrific amounts of punishment.

no man is more thoroughly punished than an outclassed but game and in shape professional boxer.

boxing can demand / take your life as a direct result of the pursuit of the intended result (a stoppage or knockout)

sounds like the most demanding to me

In my opinion, being able to read your opponent and adjust, in real time, as punches are coming your way is what separates an elite/world-class fighter than a journeyman or middle of the road athlete. Skills and power and other physical attributes don't always win the day, being able to adjust on the fly to your opponent and recognize weaknesses as they open up is critical. Not enough credit shown in that category
