  • This is bull**** how people are ****ting on Donaire and his wife. Seriously, as boxing fans what do we want? We want the biggest and best fights. Do we want to fork out $39.99 for a Pinoy Power PPV with Donaire fighting bums? Is that what you guys enjoyed doing? Seriously, **** off with that ****. Donaire knocked out loud mouth Darchinyan (which Gary Shaw promoted NOT Bob) and Bob still had no idea what a class fighter he had on his hands. Put him in ****ty PPV's and no one saw what this kid was all about. Then suddenly his contract is coming up and he gives him two solid fights, he blows both fighters out of the water and only now the media know how good this kid is.

Now I'm not doubting Bob Arum's skills as a promoter, but surely even the thickest boxing fan knew of Donaire's talent right? And surely even the most ******ed boxing fan knows, that if you put someone on PPV when they're not well known, no mainstream media or casual boxing fans will know about them? Well how did Manny really blow up on the scene? Was it by fighting on Pinoy Power PPVs? NO it was when he fought Ledwaba on a De La Hoya undercard and Jorge Julio on the Lennox Lewis Vs Mike Tyson undercard. People don't just become stars from nothing, they need exposure on BIG events. Just look how Saul Alvarez was handled by Golden Boy, the Mexicans are going crazy for him. And it'd be the same if Bob put Donaire on Pacquiao undercards, whoever doesn't see this should stop watching boxing and take interest in something else. Even if he wasn't put on Pacquiao undercards because Koncz or Pacquiao don't like it....he could have put him on Cotto, Pavlik or Margarito's undercards! That would have got him exposure! Or even if he pushed to get him headlining Showtime or HBO events with credible opponents...anything to promote one of the best boxers in the world! But no, he stuck him on ****ty PPV's. Anyone who can't see why he left Top Rank hasn't got a clue.

    • It Ain't rocket science. Arum sees Pac and Nito on the same card as giving the fan too much for the price of one ticket. Arum is a pig and a user and his concern is money period. He is saving Nito for when Pac is done and then we'll see Nito against of string of Top Rank fighters just like he doing with Pac.
Pac needs a wife with a brain, or some balls, since he has none when it comes to Arum. Sure he's getting paid but his legacy is going to be crap if he keeps getting fed Margaritos and Mosleys.

      • Donaire was caught in middle of De La Hoya-Arum rivalry...

He will have no fights within the next 1-2 years if this problem will be in court.

Both sides have documents to show.

Yes, somebody did. A humble person created a name for himself alone through hard work and the way he fought. He created a fan base on his own - the filipino fan base. And then went up the next level and created another fanbase..the global one which includes American fans. He did not ride under somebody else' fame or glory to be known. He became known because of the way he fought -- do or die in the ring.

For Donaire, he needs to create his own fanbase. If he an upcoming fighter, then I would understand that. But is a world champion and has been for so many years. If inspite of that he still needs to ride on somebody else's fame to gain popularity also, then there is something wrong with the picture...

And by the way, I am a filipino. I like Donaire and I am a fan of his. He is an excellent fighter and in my opinion, better than Pacquiao in technical skills. Has the same speed and power than him. But he needs to make the country (Phil) love him and adopt him as their own by the way he fights and the way he conducts himself outside the ring. I am embarrass by the fact that in his every fight, they announce him as a fighter "FROM GENERAL SANTOS CITY, PHILIPPINES" where in fact he was just born there but spent most of his life here in America. People from that place speak only one dialect which is Cebuano/Visaya and I have never heard him speak a word of that dialect in all interviews in the Philippines or US. In other words, he cannot speak a single word of that dialect of a place where he always says he is from. He always speak using English.

He's jumping to these kinds of conclusions because he's obviously pissed off.
And if she is a little jealous, well who the hell isn't? There is an obvious opportunity in putting Donaire on Pacquiao undercards, she obviously sees it, has nothing to do with jealousy.

Tagalog is different from Cebuano/Visaya. Tagalog is the spoken by majority of filipinos...but it is not a spoken dialect of people in the Mindanao island, where General Santos City is located. I know...I am from Cotabato City which 3 hours ride away from General Santos City and I grew up there and we speak only one dialect -- Cebuano/Visaya (with ****** areas speaking ****** dialects). As I am saying, all the interviews in the Philippines he had...never heard him speak Cebuano. I have heard Pacquiao speak Cebuano thousands of times even when he is being interviewed in Tagalog by Philippine TV channels.

                  • Bob doesn't want a real Filipino Phenom taking the shine away from his cash coward. Anyone who speaks the truth about Pac is "jealous". Money Manny is the Bobfather's personal ATM.

From a business perspective, Donaire simply needs to build a fan base. National adoration is gravy but it's not a show stopper if Filipino fans don't take to Donaire like they have to Manny just because he's too "Western". You can still be a great fighter, still draw big crowds to PPVs without that kind of love. e.g. Floyd. But that level of popularity, no matter how skilled the fighter, is harder to develop without regular showcases. Fighting a few Pacquiao undercards would've been a great boost. Donaire's team realized this was not going to happen with TR/MP events.
