just downloaded and watched the fight. Kirkland is at the moment without any defensive skills, he's going forward and throwing bombs without jabbing his way in, reckless wide punches just as he's in a prison fight.
This guy needs a trainer correcting him cause this way of fighting won't pay off against more skilled opponents. A pure boxer will outbox Kirkland for 7-8 Rds and then KO Kirkland ,
The journeyman yesterday was able to hit Kirkland at will and even stagger him without following up for the kill. The top 10 cats wont hesitate to throw a flurry of punches to force a stoppage. As I see it now, Kirkland, unless he improve his defensive skills, will most likely do a "Salita" when stepping up to face a top 5 fighter in the division.

just watched the fight and kirkland looked quite bad honestly..

ya he has some power but he had no technical fundamentals of any kind

falling forward, off balance throwing bombs, no jab, no body work

he looked like he was in a bar fight

and he got STAGGERED with legs going out on him in the first round from a right hand from berrios

i think berrio stuned kirkland more than anything not badley hurt but did woble hes back foot cuz that shot was straight on the temple and those shots really rattle your cranium and that brain......and that happened becuz james goes in there not caring much about defence but at some point u have to cuz u gona see him get hit in the future with some real bombs from a real puncher and the worst thing is when he doesnt see it coming!!!??? as far as martinez v kirkland is a lil too soon still he still needs more fights and work on hes defence and frikin patience but the only thing will take martinez down is body shots to shut out the legs and kirkland can do that with him hammering the body continuously for most of the fight cuz kirkland can punch at 154 and 160..
