What's REALLY funny is people on here are attempting to call Cotto number one at welterweight even though Mayweather hasn't fought him. I could call out half this board for the same reason I'm being called out here.

Why not just say something like "yeah, I was wrong and I now look a little dumb"

But I do agree that if anyone's saying Cotto's the no.1 at welter then they're sadly mistaken. Floyd's the linear champ, so until he gives it up or gets beat then he's the man. I have to say though, I've not seen many people on here proclaiming that.

I was totally wrong for my initial concern in this thread, wrong to jump the gun and write Calzaghe off without really knowing what he could do. In my defense, how could I know about him? He was hyped by all his countrymen for doing nothing - being undefeated, that's it. His resume was ****. His 3 best wins have come SINCE my initial post.

On the other hand, we got Cotto fans saying he's #1 out of pure hate for Mayweather despite Mayweather beating much better competition than Calzaghe has ever thought about fighting. That is wrong and even moreso than I was for being fed up with Joe hiding in Europe with hand injuries.

Calzaghe definitely faked the injury to get out of their fight, so can we go ahead and say Lacy is the man to beat? Lacy has fought the better opposition as of late while Calzaghe continues to do nothing. Lacy is the champ. If Calzaghe wants to bring his meaningless WBO title to the table, he can challenge Lacy if he wants to, but if it doesn't take place in the states, no way Lacy should accept him as a challenger.

People forget that Lacy was highly regarded by most Americans and even favored to defeat Joe at the time.

Iceman Scully told me years ago he was a good not great fighter with some flaws.

So I believed him the whole time while the hype train progressed.

He was right knowing the guy since the ams and all.

I'll say again. Lacy was a FAVORITE even in England going into that fight so don't act like anybody thought Calzaghe was any good. Nobody knew anything about him.
