and of all people, ts chose to quote larry merchant...a guy who called floyd a boring fighter
I think its generally understood that merchant hates mayweather, and tries to belittle him every chance he gets.....

with that being said, if boxing was on its way back as teh thread starter stated, and as we have read in many articles, and now merchant is saying its losing its luster, what has changed in the last couple of years???

BULL**** CATCHWEIGHTS, PEOPLE FIGHTING FOR BELTS THAT DONT DESERVE THEM (AND THIS ISNT ALL ON PAC EITHER) THE ONLY THING I can think of is MAYWEATHER HASNT BEEN FIGHTING........People fighting for belts that havent really won a match in years, yep I am talking about MAYORGA....

But I am open to other things as well if you have something else.

I mean shows like 24/7 suffer when mayweather is not on them, and casual fans do watch 24/7.....

Boxing needs Floyd more than Floyd needs boxing and he's been carrying it on his back for years so you need to reevalute your statement.

I love boxing but the difference between me and a lot of the posters in this thread is i'm a realist and i call them how i see them. At this point, given boxings current state, Floyd is bigger than the sport itself.

Some of you chumps need to remember that before you start questioning his character. If it wasnt for him, most of you would've lost interest in this sport years ago so give the man his respect.

On a rational note, Floyd does make boxing exciting. His fights are always big fights. He is a personality. I like watching him fight.

                But boxing doesn't owe him.

Floyd got his from the sport.

He broke down that there's a yearning for boxing from the general public (as evidenced by the success of the movie The Fighter) which currently isnt being filled by the athletes at the forefront of the sport today.

Which is funny because up until a year ago everyone was claiming that boxing was "back" better than ever after going through a dark period. So what happened that triggered the public to lose interest in sport once again?

Well it's the same thing that made them claim boxing was "a dying sport" a couple of years ago. When Floyd Mayweather takes a hiatus, people simply lose interest because there are no other athletes of his caliber to fill his shoes.

He's not only the most skilled boxer in the sport of boxing today.. he's also the most entertaining outside of the ring, the most well known internationally, and the best ambassador for the sport.

If he ultimately decides to stay retired, then we should respect all he's given to the sport and salute him for calling it quits while still at the top of his game. However if he decides to return to the sport that already owes him, we shouldnt take for granted the few fights he might have left.

That's why i encourage everyone to contact Money Mayweather on his twitter page to thank him for the career he's had and to encourage him to make his return to the ring.
