ok, so Camacho beat Rosario, a very good fighter, and Ramirez, someone who deserved to beat Arguello, and yet he is still a 'B-level' fighter?Rosario was a very good but not great fighter. Cooney was an example of someone with a great punch who wasn't a great fighter. The point being that a great punch doesn't make you great.
All designations are subjective but I'd rather not cheapen the definition of great by spreading it far and wide.
Watt and Ganigan were never that good and Mancini was marginal: A solid fighter but not even a near-great. Arguello also got KTFO by Pryor, something I seriously doubt would have 10 years earlier. Pryor himself gets grossly overrated.....based largely on the fact he KOed a past-it Arguello. Certainly nothing Pryor did in his career warrents the overinflated regard he gets from people claiming he was some awesome threat to Leonard and Hearns.

Camacho wasn't a B level fighter, he was definitely an A level fighter. I also think the same of Rosario, one of the hardest punchers ever at that weight class.
I just think that me and Poet see Chavez and Whitaker on another level because they were on another level.
Camacho's pitty pat jabs and weak left hand couldn't keep Chavez off of him at 130, 135 or 140lbs.....it makes no difference.Comment

Poet,
It's taking you too long to write that BS comeback son. Come on now, I thought you were the word-smith. Don't doubt yourself son, let the words flow. The last thing you want is for it to come off as contrived. Tick tock.Comment

Dude. The caveman days are over. Intellectually talented >>>>> physically talented. Real men use their brains, **********s use brawn and grunt alot.....and refer to guys like me as "boss". As in "can I have a raise boss?", "can I kiss your ass so I don't wind up in the unemployment line boss?". You know, things YOU'LL be saying when you get that job at McDonalds :grin9:

Camacho was brilliant at 135lbs. he was not pitty pat at all, as shown against Ramirez and Limon.Camacho wasn't a B level fighter, he was definitely an A level fighter. I also think the same of Rosario, one of the hardest punchers ever at that weight class.

I think Chavez would have still beaten him at 135lbs since he was excellent at cutting off the ring and in general was a bad style matchup for him, but Camacho was very talented in his prime...almost even Whitaker level.(although certainly not as high as Chavez or Whitaker on an overall ATG level in terms of accomplishments)Comment

The thing is, Chavez chin was iron, he walked through much harder punchers jabs and straight shots, not a good match up for Camacho.Camacho was brilliant at 135lbs. he was not pitty pat at all, as shown against Ramirez and Limon.

He had Whitaker speed but wasn't the slickster and awkward style fighter that Whitaker was. He was slick, don't get me wrong but IMO Whitaker is one of the greatest defensive fighters in the history of boxing.Comment

Spoken like a true loser. A bitter 42 year old sales rep at Best Buy who continues to look for scapegoats when making sense of what he has become. Do you always live in a fantasy world in which you get to boss the entire NY Knicks around whilst dressed in a tuxedo? Maybe you could audition for Taxi Driver II. Drive around with your little notebook full of cliche riddled poems, and point your finger at all the "dumb" people who just don't get what you're all about and how they will never know what it's like to be you. PLEASE tell me you're not a hipster. Not only is it contrived to sht, but lacks that "grunt" you dismissed in your earlier work. Don't be a pssy dude, don't let them emasculate you and hand you a flower covered notepad. Be the man your father wanted you to be.Dude. The caveman days are over. and I do think Chavez and Whitaker were overall better fighters than Camacho.
I just think Camacho in general is pretty underrated.Comment
