Nobody can stop Pacquiao but Mayweather. Not Mosley, Not Bradley, Not Berto, Not Marquez.

Martinez.... because Martinez would be the first career JMW he would fight if he chose to defend the belt he was handed (plaster free) at 154 by way of cathweight vs a career WW cheater that STILL hasn't won a fight in over 2 years. Much like Clottey and now Mosley.

Why must a fighter have not won a significant fight in over 2 years in order for Pac to "agree" to step in the ring with? Cottey? Margartio? Mosley?

I'm a fan of both Floyd and Manny, and I think talking about who wins the fight is going to always be a manner of opinion. Floyd is the best defensive fighter in the sport today, and Manny is the best offensive fighter in the sport. Their match-up would be a true clash of fighter vs boxer, and while it's easy to say that Manny could catch Floyd and knock him out if anyone can, or that Floyd would outbox Manny for twelve rounds, the truth is that it's anybody's fight.

Mayweather has never fought a fighter as skilled at pressuring as Pacquiao, and has shown he has trouble against southpaws in the first Jose Luis Castillo fight in which he was lucky to win. He's also older than he once was and (as Freddie Roach has been claiming) it's possible some of Mayweather's footwork activity has dropped off.

Pacquiao meanwhile has had trouble with fast boxers and counterpunchers, as we saw in both Juan Manuel Marquez fights and the first half of the Erik Morales trilogy. He hasn't in fact fought a skilled counterpuncher since Marquez, unless you count Josh Clottey, who landed effectively on Pacquiao on those few occasions he actually tried for the punch. Granted, Pacquiao has gotten a lot more skilled since the second Marquez fight.

I think this fight is Mayweather's to lose. When an equally skilled boxer and brawler meet in the ring, the boxer usually comes out ahead. But it'll take twelve rounds of full focus for Mayweather to accomplish it. Pacquiao throws a ton of punches and knows how to move in and out of range between his flurries, so unless Mayweather's laser counter right hand can keep Manny from opening up, Floyd is going to have a lot of pressure on him the whole fight. I don't think we'll see Manny tentatively standing around like Mosley did.

It's nice to see talks of the fight happening coming from both sides now so let's hope it gets made for the summer or November.

Martinez is too big for Manny. He is a small middleweight, sure, but he is still a big fighter with speed. I agree with you that Manny shouldn't have gotten a belt at 154, he should have fought Margarito at 147, but even so, Martinez is an elite middleweight with a huge size advantage over Manny. Keep in mind Pacquiao didn't even fight Margarito at their catchweight of 150; he weighed in at 143 or 144. And Martinez is not likely to go back down from middleweight; he wants to remain the middleweight champion of the world.

The fighters you listed (Cotto, Clottey, Margarito, Mosley) are still the top welterweights with recognizable names and proven skillsets that actually wanted to fight Manny. All these fighters with the exception of Clottey have established fanbases that will buy their fights too. Cotto was favored by a lot of people to beat Manny, Clottey is a tough fighter that could have hurt Manny if not for his covering up, Margarito is an iron-chinned fighter with relentless pressure, and Mosley is a legend of the past decade and still a big threatening boxer-puncher compared to Manny.

Berto is undefeated but unproven and has no real fanbase; nobody knows how good he is because he hasn't fought anybody. Bradley didn't look great at 147 and still has unfinished business at his own weight class, and anyway Arum has already expressed interest in a Bradley-Pacquiao match down the line. It's dumb to bring up Mayweather as an opponent until he expresses real willingness to fight Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is still the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world based on activity, talent, performance, and level of opposition.

People said the same thing about the Shane fight... All this "he is scared talk" never helped anyone beat Floyd. Obviously anyone who trades punches for a living isn't scared of fighting.. Especially one who punches you 20 times more than you punch him. Its real simple folks.. Watch clips of post-fight interviews... Floyd is always the one who looks like he didn't even fight for 1 round, much less 12. Pacquiao on the other hand, is a warrior, but it shows how much he gets hit after his fights.. Swollen ears, broken eardrums, bruised up face, cuts... Floyd is levels above Manny fundamentally, and technically. I'll say it again.. Manny Pacquiao can beat everyone out there except Floyd Mayweather and maybe Sergio Martinez

haha thanks for clarifying that about Margarito, I had no idea he wasn't a southpaw, or a counter puncher, damn you learn something new here every day haha. That's my exact point genius, Margs is an orthodox fighter just like May and FAR less accurate than May and he had no problems landing on Pac. Anyone with any boxing knowledge knows that the most dangerous shot against a south paw is what??? The straight right hand..which is Floyd's best punch. Floyd will have to be very careful for Pac's straight left as he has shown vulnerability for that in the past, but beyond the str8 left Pac has nothing to bother Floyd. Average right hook, below average jab, couple hybrid punches. And if you think Floyd's uppercut isn't going to be countering Manny's str8 left you may wanna rewatch the Cotto fight.

You are correct in the fact that the should roll is somewhat nullified, but since Pac's jab is essentially garbage and nothing more than a range finder for his straight left, Floyd will just use his high guard like he did against Mosley, and counter it with his left hook. This is not to mention Pac will be eating jabs to both the head and body all day, and as the fight progresses those will turn into lead rights.

Average right hook??? Last time I heard that same average right hook floored Cotto.
