I was going to say something along these lines. I think it hinges on Solis's performance in his fight against Klitschko. Will Odlanier look worthy, or will he look like just another victim? No matter how you cut it, though, Solis isn't a big name, and Vitali probably won't get heavy credit for beating him.
When Vitali Beats Solis........

I've little doubt that Solis will get pummeled (barring an injury or something). However if in the future he goes on to win a couple of belts, the win will look good in retrospect.I was going to say something along these lines. I hate seeing a fat heavyweight. It's one of the reasons why I respect the Klitschko brothers' commitment to their sport: they stay in peak condition. That said, I grudgingly agree with what you say about Solis's weight helping him...to a degree. Odlanier's stamina didn't seem to suffer too badly in his earlier fights. But the fight against Austin proved that carrying excessive weight would eventually catch up to Solis.I can agree with you there.
I'm a Solis fan and am one of the few people who thinks the weight has helped him in his fights. I've never seen any issues with stamina, and have seen massive strength gains as his fights have accumulated until the Austin one. That is the only fight in my opinion where he faught the way he looks.
The negative comments are justified for that fight. I chalk it up to lack of motivation for an opponent who was obviously not a threat (Jab KD, comon).
The recent reports of Solis' training are convincing me that he's brining his A game, which to me represents all the qualities every recent Vitali opponent has lacked (except for chin as it hasn't been tested yet).
If the rumors are true that Solis is trimming down, then it's an acknowledgement that being overweight was the wrong strategy all along. My concern is that the body isn't a machine. It takes time to adjust to changes. Odlanier might not have had a great chance against Vitali to begin with, but being a professional about his career would've given him much better odds.Comment

I think there's alot of exaggeration here as to what happened in that fight. Solis had Austin out on his feet several times & remember it was Austin who got disqualified because he refused to let Solis knock him out. Solis did gas & his stamina was pathetic & that's where all the criticism stems from>>> asian cutie.

Vitali wins. Whether he destroys Solis or simply wins by UD...I dunno. However, Solis does stand a good chance of winning a couple of (meaningless) belts down the line. The victory would then someday look good on Vitali's record.Comment

Not in the literal sense..although Vitali has been known to do that as well. No fighter I CAN think of HAS EVER been the same or close to the same fighter he was after going rds with Vitali...these prolonged beatdowns he delivers are very hard to recover from...just ask Lennox.Comment

No doubt. Taking bombs from that monster can change the course of a fighter's career. I just think Solis is talented enough to avoid a prolonged beating, a la Briggs, and young enough to recover from the punishment he does sustain. Not in the literal sense..although Vitali has been known to do that as well. Hey man, that's all fair and logical. Let's see how he shows up. He's still relatively young. All people are different. Look at Ricky Hatton.I hate seeing a fat heavyweight. Honestly, I don't think we'll see a massive drop into the 240's or even 250's like some people expect. I figure a slight drop due to a change in training focus is most likely what we'll see.Comment
