Depends how far back in history you want to go.
The void between the ancients that created it and today's USA, Mexico ect... will probably be the UK with the Marquess of Queensberry rules being the norm today.Comment

The states and nobody comes close.
mexico gets an honorable mention
the mexican tradition of boxing is generally one of my favorites to watch (no clinching, head movement, body punching)
but if you look down the lists of the greatest boxers of all time
you'll find it to be predominantly americans w/ ethnic backgrounds and hard upbringings
PS: ali, robinson, greb, pep, leonard, armstrong, louis, tunney, saddler.
nuff said perhaps, but the list goes onLast edited by New England; 03-02-2011, 07:36 PM.Comment

The question to the thread is not which country is the best or who has the most champions. It's which country has the richest history which is a totally different question. In this case, I beleive it was Greece that was the 1st evidence to boxing. But in terms of richest history I think it has got to be England, which began with bareknuckle fighting, then the Queensberry rules that have created and evolved into the sport we all love and watch. One of the first recoreded prize fighters was an englishman who I think was Figg who was a bear baiter and a swordsman, but had a very short reign..Comment
