Can't wait until someone cracks a power shot and rattle his chin from ear to ear.
Brandon Rios is a walking target.

Someone with power did last night and couldn't badly hurt him or come close to putting him away.
Sure he is not going to be ice skating around the ring looking for a points win but every fighter who comes forward is not without their own skill set and technique used to get close and do damage.Comment

I agree homie. Nobody is giving Rios any credit for a perfectly sustained body attack.
Acosta boxed beautifully the 1st 4 rounds, he set traps, feigned, worked the angles, commanded space with the jab, turned Rios into hooks. I would've liked to see him shoot the jab down stairs more, he could've gotten Rios to lean forward if he did.
Rios didn't lean forward much(Which he said he wouldn't, he stuck to the plan with that), he slid his feet instead of picking them up to cut the ring off(Most dont think that he did a good job in cutting the ring off. I disagree. I think he did a fair job, being that Acosta was moving very well around a big ring). I think if Bam woulda worked behind the jab, he would've gotten inside easier, but he was being cautious of the uppercut and check hook that Acosta was trying to set up. But the one of the most impressive things technically that I saw Rios doing was working the body without leaning too far in(Chin over his feet). That was sound fundamentals right there.

In my eyes, a man who gets caught cheating the way he did is suspect all the way around. It's something that will forever mark his career, and no one knows exactly when he began to use plaster..but like I always say...it sure as hell wasn't just in the mosley fight. No one can convince me that, all of a sudden after beating all these great fighters..beating a prime and undefeated cotto, all of a sudden he NEEDS plaster for mosley? C'mon man..he's been using it a bit before Cotto. So I don't care how many belts he fought for...he's a tainted man who gets no respect. As for Rios, I don't take his heart and will from him. He's undefeated and climbing up in ranks, that's great. I'm just saying if he keeps "walking" and "Stalking" and not moving his head, another slick boxer is gonna ring his head off just like Margarito had it done to him.Comment

Very nice breakdown, Chief! I couldn't have said it better! It was an awesome fight! And i think Rios is early enough in his career that he can improve on some of those fundementals, like defense, which he did adjust to later in the fight, getting hit less, so that shows he's teach-able.Last edited by jazluvr; 02-27-2011, 03:46 PM.Comment

exactly what i noticed last night...stalks and stalks no head movement whatsoever. He's a mini version of Antonio Margarito..has no rhythem, throws barely any jabs and has no head movement at all. He's bound to get knocked out by top contenders. Big heart, but needs to be trained better. If you guys notice, he just follows around, walks to his opponents and stalks, just like margarito.
Hope he sticks around though, he's very entertainingComment

Thank you Jaz my man. Acosta is a very accurate puncher, and Rios showed that he can adjust mid-fight. Nobody is giving him credit for his defense, they aren't taking into account he had a very accurate puncher(who hits damn hard)in front of him. He did have Acosta missing and hitting gloves, so his defense was present(spotty), but present nonetheless. And he was connecting on Acosta, who was to my surprise more difficult to hit than in his previos bouts. Both fighters showed up with their A-game. For the record Rios' defense is better than Margs D ever was. You right Jaz, there is alot of upside to Rios. He is very teachable, and picks it up quick.Very nice breakdown, Chief!
