Kellys remarks are a grand indicator that he may need to dispose of Boxing and concentrate on sobriety as a way of life.
If he admits that he is an alcoholic then he should admit that it has affected every avenue of his being.
He is the only one who can state that he is a drunk.
Once you engage that acceptance, the entire game changes.
That is how it works. There is no other way.
As an ex pug and a vet of 28 sober years I wish him well, but his comments do not sound like a gentleman who has surrendered to his ailment.

Thats exactly what he is saying and everyone is looking to turn this into pavlik is delsional etc etc..

Pavlik is a straight forward fighter in the ring and hes straight forward as a man he is not making any excuses as far as alcohol being the reason he lost. Look out for pavlik to hit the comeback trail hard he is still a young man and he still has the heavy hands and the chin to bring him back in the depths of the middleweight division.. If pavlik comes in with a new state of mind he will be very dangerous PM me if you want to make bets when the super fights come because i see this fighter making his way back up

I don't think Pavlik can get back to the boxer he once was.

To admit that your alcoholism doesn't affect you obviously shows he is not in control of his life. His family, his trainer and all the people who love and care for him all say otherwise: that it has affected him and even affected their relationship with him.

He is the only one who says it has not affected him...the rest disagree with him.

That itself is a big problem. And can affect the mental preparation of the guy.

The long ESPN (I think?) article recently said very similar things. Two interventions, two spells in rehab and Pavlik still can't accept that alcohol is a huge problem in his life. I hope he comes to his senses before he's destroyed as a person, his future as a fighter is irrelevant in the wider picture.

people in boxing have apparently known that pavlik has a drinking problem for many years (dating back to after his taylor victory in '07)

he's been known to get into bar fights
and he even owned a tavern.



kelly pavlik is a problem drinker and it affected his fighting.


kudos to him for kicking the habit and coming back to the sport
i hope he stays clean and lives a happy life without alcohol and that the people around him are supportive of that.

I agree. Pavlik's spent over 2 months in a rehab clinic just to form an excuse.

I guess thats sarcasm? Anyone can go to rehab, it doesnt mean they have an actual problem or addiction. People go to the doctors these days saying they're "sad" and get put on Prozac or Valium. I think people need to man the *** up instead.

Ricky Hatton spent weeks in rehab and theres absolutely no way he was a cokehead.

Addiction, in any form, IS a problem that involves one's self. Lives go to ***** because of alcoholism, drug addition, compulsive ********, sex addiction, etc.

When you can no longer moderate your use of a substance and it starts affecting your functional life, then it is a problem. The sad thing is that the addict is often the last one to admit that there is a problem, just like Hatton and Pavlik. No need for us fans to go along with their denials.
