Sounds like Pavlik is in denial, which means his problems with booze aren't over.

I read it differently. I thought he was trying to make sure no one takes anything away from Bernard & Sergio's wins over him by blaming alcohol. He said "it would be easy to say that, but it's just not true". I thought he was being classy and admitting that he lost those fights b/c they were the better man, not b/c of any problems he has outside the ring.

I get your point, and yes, Pavlik could have been taking the classy approach by not undermining Hopkins/Martinez wins over him.

But I agree with Chopper, if Pavlik truly doesn't realise that drinking heavily - even between fights - is most likely significantly affecting his preparation/performance, then there is no hope for him.

I was wondering why Pavlik was so lethargic vs. Martinez. Dude went on a binge in the middle of training camp. That's also why they canceled the Vera fight.
