When did Hasegawa become Lineal Champion?

Rafael Marquez was considered the #1 at Bantamweight until 2006 until he moved up to fight Vasquez.

Hasegawa was considered the #2 in 2005 when he beat Sahaprom.

In 2006 when Marquez left the division, Hasegawa went to #1 by default. And although Sahaprom was considered #2 at this time and Hasegawa had already beat him twice, that doesn't make him Lineal Champion.

What Hasegawa was considered as when Montiel beat him was the #1 ranked fighter in the division, thus when Montiel beat him he was considered the #1 ranked fighter at Bantamweight. Although many felt it was open for debate.

But the fact is, Donaire beat the guy was was ranked #1 at Bantamweight, and destroyed him. He deserves the praise he is getting.

This is what i hate about this forum,before the fight,everybody was saying its the best fight that can be made in the division,they are the two best at bantam easily,before the fight alot of experts where calling it a 50/50 fight or 60/40 in Donaire's favor,before the fight Montiel hadnt lost for like 5 years,was on a KO streak,had one of the best years out of all fighters in 2010,and his only 2 losses coming by way of SD,Donaire made it look easy and blew him out the water,i think we shud credit donaire on knocking out an elite level fighter,remember,alot of people rank Abner Mares high,but he struggled with Darchinyan,who Donaire also blew out the water

Well this is my two cents.

1. this was one of the better fights at BW but I kept telling people the real fight at that weight class was Agbecko vs Donaire.

2. Yes this was a pretty good fight heading in. I'd say 60-40 in Donaire's faavor. Just because Donaire got the KO doesn't mean this wasn't a good matchup because if Montiel is an elite fighter for his weight class. If anyone saw that KO and thought he wasn't is a ****in idiot who doesn't follow the lower weight class.

3. It's easy to play sunday morning boxing expert.....which is what a lot of people are doing right now.

4. Most of the posters who are saying great things about Donaire were saying these prior to the bout. I'm cool with a lot of those guys and they have thought highly of Donaire for a while.

5. Donaire should get full credit and as long as he tries to fight other elite fightters in his weight class instead of just chasing money, he deserves a top 3 P4P ranking.


I have been hard on Donaire on these forums, but I've always told his fans that it was because I see greatness in him, it's just he was content with the whole "no one want's to fight me excuse". If he develops the attitude to match his talent, he will be an ATG......which is what I want to see and which is why I'm so highly critical of him on these boards.

People arent over reacting over this win. Its just the manner in which he won. He had Montiel looking like a newborn baby reaching for him mama laying on his back after the KD. It was an exciting finish. Had he danced and boxed Montiel to a 12rnd decision, i'm sure the reaction wouldnt be so extreme.

Ive ehard of but dont really know much about either fighter. As soon as I saw how much bigger Donaire was, I knew who was going to win. Both guys have power, and both were landing, it was only a matter of time.

I hope he doesn't try to take a pointless fight by facins WV2, which does nothing for his career.

Montiel had/has the skills to compete with Donaire. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional at best. Montiel's best chance was to work on the inside, as he was tryin to do at the time he got stopped. He just went about getting inside the wrong way, and paid for the mistake. Thats all there is to it.
