I see so many of these "Donaire is filipino-american" threads trying to diminish his Pinoy heritage. You need to get the facts straight Donaire was born in the Philippines and he moved here when he was 10 years old. He carries the Filipino flag to the ring because he still considers himself a Filipino with American citizenship. Brian Viloria is Filipino-American. Donaire is the next great Filipino superstar in boxing.
Donaire is Filipino with US citizenship

Donaire is clearly not American. He may of been raised here for most of his life but both his parents are Filipino and he was not born in America. He's an American now by citizenship and maybe by American culture but boxing wise he is clearly not classified as American. I don't know why people find it so hard to classify what nation fighters are from. If Donaire has a son though and he turns out to be a boxer he would clearly be American with Filipino descent. -

He's only spent 10 years in the PI & has spent most of his life in America. He's American. End of story.Comment

Whether by citizenship or being born here, Donaire swore an oath to become a citizen of the USA so he is an American. He can always revoke his citizenship and go back to the Philippines though. I really don't like how people come here and crap all over our flag no respect.Comment
