I agree that he is very well known but to me the comparison doesn't work because Ali was know for reason other than boxing. Even the people in the Philippines that don't follow boxing know him because of boxing at this point anyways.

To me that is the difference between him and Ali. Any other fighter the comparison works because there was only 1 Muhammed Ali

i would disagree with that statement. Ali was first known as a boxer, just like pacman. Ali then became known for his civil rights acts, & stand against the war. Its common knowledge that pacman is much more than just a boxer in his country. The guy is a movie star, music star, & now he's a congressman as well as a active boxer just like ali was an entertainer in college campuses & variety shows.

Both were known as boxing stars first. I mean there's a cease fire between ****** rebel forces & government troops whenever pacman fights as well as the zero crime rate. I dont even think ali can do that.

To say only ali is known for things other than boxing would be false.

I mean, there's only one michael jordan but how many times have we heard the comparisons?

He's not claiming that Pacquiao is like Ali in that he is controversial or making a political stand, I think he makes the distinction between the two in that regard pretty clearly. He's just saying that both men's lives and impact outside of the ring supersede what they do inside of it.

Whereas Ali took a stand against the government for his religious beliefs and paid the ultimate professional price for it, Pac is using the government to better the lives of his people. Two sides of the same coin.

I guess that's where the ali comparison comes into play. Ali is to african americans in his time period equals what manny is to the philippines more so.

Well when you talk about influential athlete Muhammed Ali is the apex. To me you don't compare someone coming up with the apex.

Manny is coming up in that regard and is really important in the Philippines but I think he is just starting out in that regard in terms of really utilizing his influence.
