He was a great amateur, but he's not a good pro.
Tyrell Biggs and Henry Tillman were also excellent amateurs and useless pros.Last edited by Dave Rado; 02-14-2011, 07:08 PM.Comment

Conditioning might be an issue, but it's hard to get motivated for a fighter who fails to land a single punch on you, and that you knock down with a Jab. A JAB!!!
Solis has shown that he can move, counter, etc very well with fighters who are kinda dangerous. If you watch the barrett fight, solis was in Perfect form. If that Solis shows up the fight will be competitive. NO ONE ON HERE SAID HE WAS GOING TO WIN. Just that he would be competitive.
And yes, Vitali has fought better opponents, much better opponents, just not recently.
Timing man. It's all about the timing. Years ago... no contest, but now at this moment in time, it will be competitive.
He's never been hit the way he's about to be hit. I don't think he'll like it much.
And for a guy who says he doesn't like to box -- it's not out of the realm of possibility that he bails out early on this fight, takes his money and pulls a Sultan, never to be heard from again, ballooning up to 400 pounds in obscurity.
VK to me is smarter defensively now, measures distance better than he did back when he fought Lewis and Sanders (thanks to his informal work with Manny), and takes a lot less punishment while still dishing out plenty of it.
That means trouble for Solis the Obese.Comment

As for Solis, the rumors might have something to do with the 70 lbs or so he's gained since turning pro.Comment

I doubt it. I don't think Solis makes it past 8 rounds, if that.

Naw sorry. KJ lasted 12 and so did Briggs. Which should show you where Vitali is at in his career. Briggs was just eating them and he lasted the full fight. Solis' D is better than Kevin Johnson's and Briggs'. He will stand the full 12.
I see it either going UD for VK, or Solis pressures him and lands a monster punch (TKO).
I'll leave it at that. (and yeah 'Solis the Obese' did make me chuckle a bit)Comment

I will have to say that I am far from an expert but I really don't understand all of the fans trying to pretend that Solis is a great fighter or even a good fighter. Because I just spent the better part of an hour watching his fights and highlights on You Tube and I was far from impressed. Other than the fact that he goes to body well I cannot say I saw anything that impressed me. If he has a jab he rarely uses it. He also tends to load up on and wings all of his power punches, and therefore I believe that his power is even overrated. And he also leaves himself wide open while loading up on his punches. The fact that Julius Long was able to keep him at the end of his jab is pretty sad. And yes that was only his fifth fight but he also only weighed 247 pounds. I believe that even at 247 pounds he was overrated and now he is a fat overrated slob at 270 with seventeen fights of which none were over a fighter ranked even in the top 20. So, the only chance he has with Vitali is if Vitali gets old before the fight which is very possible but unlikely.Comment

Solis is a master at blocking the jab. Assuming Solis shows up to fight with decent cardio, I think he blocks Vitali's jabs all night long, walks him down and lands a few clean shots. Vitali is going to regret keeping his hands so low. Solis takes advantages of Vitali's flaws and I think he beats Vitali by UD.Comment

Julius Long wasn't landing anything on him. If you watch the jabs he threw hardly any of them landed clean.
