Dempsey's killer instinct is the x factor here. I mean ffs, Liston and Tyson named Dempsey as influences on them.

That has to tell you something. I'm not gonna go calling Wlad a creampuff or anything, but it'd be interesting to see how he'd deal with Dempsey's ferocity.

how about you compare past greats with current/modern greats.

I mean i can flip the script & say what would our greats do to the yesteryear's version of berto & cintron?
      Pacquiao vs. Basilio at 152.

      Who wins?

besides, a fat former middleweight was a top 3 fighter at one point at HW only a few years ago.
Sorry but Toney being in the top 3 at HW (it happened in 2005 right?) was a joke. Who did he beat that year? Dominick Guinn, who was coming off a loss and a draw. Oh and he got suspended for roiding against Ruiz, yeah top 3 right there

He better be very careful. Cause one Dempsey shot is enough to turn the lights out for a long time.

Another thing about Dempsey is that he could box damn well, he had those skills to fall back on if he couldn't knock you out immediately, hes generally underrated in this aspect but theres been a slight reverse effect where some individuals in the history section have described him as unbeatable. He was also a master on the inside, its funny people compare him with Tyson because of the similar head movements and all out aggression but his inside skills are show him to also be similar to Frazier. I honestly don't see how Liston is like him at all and I've never heard him claiming to be influenced by him

Not well. Wlad can fight, but he's very dispassionate. Steward has to get in his face to make him go after somebody he's really kicking the **** out of. He'd be in there with somebody to whom boxing isn't just a sport, it's life and death. Dempsey has said that he wasn't a killer in the ring because killing his opponent made it too short. He liked to punish them. That's borderline sociopath in the ring against a guy who's "just" an athlete.

All this talk about Dempsey really makes me pissed that there isn't high quality films available of him.

I'm with you there. I can't wait for somebody to remaster the films like the Robinson-Basilio matchups.

it was a sad division, people just forget. John Ruiz was the third best in the division at the time when Toney beat him, Wladimir had been knocked out twice, and Vitali had just retired.
Then Toney went on to be robbed against Sam Peter, so yes, sadly he was a legitimate #3 in the division.
