  • Would Jack Dempsey beat Wladimir Klitschko?

Dempsey knocked out Willard who was Wladdy's size and Wladdy has a suspect chin and doesn't like pressure.

I think its at least even money.

I don't think Dempsey would have a shot against Vitali so I won't ask about him.

You know damn well nobody in the modern era can beat small, white, unathletic american old school fighters such as jack dempsey.

Old geezers of the golden era (tainted era) are unbeatable.

he would probably beat wlad via newspaper decision. Just like harry greb.

Such a wide time between them it's difficult to say.

But by God is Dempsey greater than Wlad.

      And obviously Vitali.

I'm with you on the way people overrate the past, but to call Jack Dempsey unathletic is crazy. That guy was a powerhouse.

yes but most great athletes of the past would get engulfed by the sheer size, physicality, speed, & athleticism of today's athletes.

Take bill russell, 11 time nba champion, yet the guy was 6'8 250 lbs, or babe ruth's fat ass......

just across the board, all sports.

if anybody is overrated its always the really old athletes of yesteryear & if anybody is grossly underrated, its today's/modern era athletes.

More like a powerbirdhouse. His style is all wrong against someone he would give up 9-10 inches in height and 70 pound in weight, someone who fights tall, has got good legs, fast hands and power that can turn a gay man straight and an abrams tank into a fiat.

You're focusing too much on their aesthetic appearance, just cuz' guys look more cut doesn't mean they got moar power.

Wlad can also turn a straight man gay.

Jokes aside, Dempsey did beat Willard who was strong and huge like Wlad. And Wlad did lose to pressure guys like Brewster and Sanders who I'm sure nobody would rank above Dempsey.

I would like to point out that Sanders is not a pressure fighter. He is a cagey southpaw counterpuncher, who, if he hurts you, can finish you off. For the old version of Wlad fighters like that are the most dangerous, as he was making a lot of technical mistakes that good counterpunchers would take an advantage of.
As for Brewster loss, it really was the case of Wlad punching himself out(no matter the fishy circumstances) brewster landed zero punches of note before the end of fourth. These guys would stand very little chance against the Wlad of today as the second Brewster fight showed, Brewster, to his credit landed more punches on Wlad in the second then in the first and used the same gameplan. How it ended we all know that.
Fighters that go in and pressure Wlad will always be at a big disadvantage, especially if they are much smaller. They will have to get through the jab and the right hand and then try to outmuscle him in the clinch to land anything of note. That is NOT an easy task.
As of today Wlad looks his best when guys go at him. He looks tentative when guys try to stay on outside and counter his right hand. Thats why it usually takes him much longer to finish off the guys who like to stay on the ropes and hope for a hail mary. He just does not commit to the right and breaks them down with the left.
