now I'm finally learning something. I thought they were totally different fighters but another poster put me on to this
knowledge. Finally iz a gettin smarter.
Hatton and Duran both came forward with little to no defense and relied on nothing more than strength and brawling to win. Hatton is whiter than Duran, so that's the only flaw in that comparison otherwise they are exactly alike.
Chavez and Baldomir both were slow, plodding, methodical fighters with good chins would take 64 punches to give 1. Both had no technique and were both Latinos.
Williams and Hearns were both the same. They are both black, really tall and threw punches at an opponent in a boxing ring. Both have also been beaten before, but not by the same person.
Man nsb is ***n out of their minds. Completely crazy vet.
Looky her ped, I've read a lot of your thoughts over the last month or so since I kinda returned to nsb-and you're right. I like a lot of your posts. Of those 3, duran-hatton is the only one that could even attempt to be argued. But really, it's no comparison. Yea they pressure, but so do hundreds of fighters. The entire comparison flies completely out the door when one considers the fighters physical attributes. period. They can't be compared bc of size, stature, durability, ability, and comp. What's the chances of hatton scooping a title at smw?
The comparison is not that deep. It doesn't go to quality of the two, achievements, subtleties of infighting and angles, etc...It's more just with styles. Hatton and Duran had fast feet, closed the distance quickly, and applied a certain type of suffocating pressure. Not a Cotto/Chavez like pressure where it was steady and somewhat subtle. More of a "don't let you breathe, I'm all over you" type pressure which inevitably ends up in too many damn clinches.
As said before, this wasn't Duran in every fight, Duran sometimes boxed more behind the jab, or was more patient in his pressure, but in certain fights (Buchanan, Palomino, Leonard 1), Duran was all over his opponents like R. Kelly on a 14 year old. Hatton obviously apply his craft nearly as well as Duran, but I think there are some stylistic similarities.

Excellent comparisons all 'round Walt.
Have you ever watched Duran? no defense? oh wait, this is facetious.... carry on.

thanks Benny. I thought so too, that's why I asked for help. It's over my head. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole "English white guy is similar to the Latino guy" thing.
