Aside from Pac and Mayweather, Miguel Cotto is probably the next best known boxer in the US. While boxers like Khan, Haye, and the K bros are household names in Europe and the same with Martinez, JCC Jr., and Canelo in the Latin American countries, the same can't be said for them in the states.
I'll never forget all the weird looks I got when people asked who I was going to see fight in AC (PWill/Martinez II), basically implying, "Why would you waste your time fighting two guys I had never heard of"? hahaComment

Adamek does well in NY/NJ because of the large Polish population in that area.

You made me think of something with that Sergio-P. Will story. Some of the most entertaining fights I ever saw were between guys I never heard of. I remember being acquainted with Mickey Ward that way, many years ago.Comment

I know there are pockets of Polish communities in parts of NYC. I'm not as familiar with their NJ counterparts. Makes sense that Adamek is popular among them, and that they support him as their "man."

I was going to reply that the Irish always back their representative in a big way. But the truth is, most people do, especially if there aren't too many "reps" to go around. I'd like to see just one guy that transcends race and national origin, someone who makes the man on the street take notice. There isn't anyone like that right now.Comment

Not really. I think Manny is closer to that definition than Floyd. I think Mayweather appeals more to the boxing fan. His undefeated status helps sell him to the public at-large. Floyd's riding that "0" for all it's worth. If we were able to take a poll, most non-boxing fans might know Mike Tyson over those two combined. And Tyson hasn't fought in years. I'm talking about someone on that level...Tyson's level.Comment
