Mares is a very exciting fighter. How he came back against Darchinyan despite his cut and the point deduction was great to watch and Mares-Perez was back and forth action.

I have a few questions about him, but I'm not overly worried. He's a quality fighter.

Like all fighters, some overrate, some underrate. At the end of the day, it's good that he's finally getting attention.

He all-but-beat Perez and did beat Darchinyan. With a win over Agbeko, he has potential rematches with Perez and Darchinyan and then possibly the winner of Donaire/Montiel or even the loser if the winner moves up in weight.

He's got a decent jab, good body attack, nice speed and hasn't folded under the pressure just yet. I like the kid.

i think this guy's best trait is his heart. you can't teach that.

i actually think his style would serve him well against Donaire. Not saying he'd win but i do believe Abner has the same chance to win against ANY bantamweight, even my boy Montiel.

i want to know what everyone thinks of this guy. i feel like he's highly underrated. last two fights have been tough (Draw against Perez, Win against Vic D.) and he has his toughest fight ahead of him with Agbeko. give me your verdict...

Those fights were all close so I think he's rated at the same level of those guys now.

I think he has his intangible attributes maxed out though. The heart, boxing intelligence, etc etc. He even seems like he's capable of more than being a brawler. It looks like he has the reach to keep people on the outside and it looks like he has the leverage to make them pay on the outside. Which is why he probably looked better when he was with Marquez's trainer. I think Abner landed like 2 uppercut combo's on Vic and Vic had a look like he never saw them coming. That's exactly what Marquez does. But Abner landed them in the mid rounds and never put together punches like that again.

Abner Mares is a little Puta and a punk, He went to the olympics came back empty handed and then got a world title shot and got a draw, In his last fight he showed all he can do is throw low blows.

I hope he fight Donaire, I would just love to see Abner Mares get sparked and really have the utter **** kicked out of him. I cant stand the punk.

Why don't you STFU you sour Khan loving ****, its damn hard to get into the olympics anyway, so what if he came back empty handed he tried his ass off, who are you to hate, he got a draw that many people fought he just edged against an elite veteran, he did better than what was expected. In his last fight he fought a much more experienced and established fighter and beat him in a hard fought decision. I hope you get the **** off this forum and take your delusional drivel to a place where its appreciated, I hear that the examiner is good.

He's way overrated and is extremely lucky to not be 0-2 in his last 2 fights.

He's regressed badly since leaving Nacho and is a k.o waiting to happen against anyone with a punch.

And if he beats agbeko he should be considered one of the best. Perez darchynian and agbeko back to back if thats not impresive i dont know what is.

like i said, i hope he wins the tournament and take the winner of montiel donaire... until then, i'm still a bit impressed BECAUSE OF HIS HEART but not totally hyped with him at all...

I like Abner any cat that comes to fight and fights the best in his division is automatically in my good graces. I worry about the following with abner.

1) I don't see him going up too high in weight without getting ***ed up.
2) vic isn't that good a boxer, abner hasn't beaten a good boxer yet (at the contender level)and he goes to war too much like bones adames
3) he hasn't looked the same since he left nacho.
4) I think king kong will put it on him.
