I am surprised with how negative boxing fans can be. I know you probably mad about Mayweather and Pacquiao and Klitschko and Haye but February 19th Donaire vs. Montiel is going to be exciting as hell and February 26th Brandon Rios vs. Miguel Acosta is going to be a great fight. April 23rd the Bantamweight Tournament is also going to be very fun to watch. I feel you though If Boxing was ran correctly it can easily be the second biggest sport in the world.

You honestly sound like a guy that only watches the prime time (HBO Championship Boxing and HBO PPV) fights.

You're like the guy that listens to the radio 100% of the time and complains that music is "stale", "boring" and "unoriginal".

You have to start watching SHOBOX and FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS. You have to start going out to see local fights.

      Every card can't be MAYWEATHER-PAC!

Had you even heard of a fighter like Jason Litzau before he upset Cabellero? Probably not.

Boxing is still a great sport with loads of young talent and stars.

I agree to some extent, but look at all the hype that surrounded Alexander / Bradley... How long did it take to match that fight? Way too long and the fight was a bust. I feel the original post's sentiment that there's so much promise but it never pans out the way the fans want it to. The sport is being held up barely by 2 fighters. That's horrendous if you ask me. When the attention to the sport is focused on drugs, questionable trainers, corrupt promoters, and only 2 truly identifiable fighters... there's a problem.

Great comment I feel that so many fans do not appreciate Boxing on the local level and the smaller shows which have produced some of the best fights I have ever seen.

There are a lot of fights you can wish for but you have to enjoy what is on. Hell I even enjoy the Golden Gloves and love to watch ESPN Classic fights. Every fight don't have to be a big name to be good, when you anticipate to much from a fight is more than likely it would let you down.

Can't count how many times in the past I wouldn't watch a match cause I wasn't interested in the fighters and the next day somebody tells me that I missed a barn burner

That is just a big misconception Boxing is not being held up by Mayweather or Pacquiao. Boxing was here long before they got here and if they wanted to walk away right now Boxing would still be here long after them. I understand fans grow impatient with that fight not happening but believe me there is a lot more to Boxing than just Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.

Dude.....Donaire vs Montiel? Hellllooooo? Do you even follow boxing? A fan with any interest cannot look past that fight! Exciting stuff!

Oh and I have a hunch Canelo vs Hatton will be a decent scrap as well.

I agree with you completely as an above average boxing fan, but this misconception is prevalent among casual boxing fans. The sport needs more household names. To you and me, Ortiz, Rios, Montiel, Froch, etc. are household names... not to the regular joes.

There's a reason why they don't know more beyond pac / floyd... the same reason the last "big" fight had poor attendance, and I hope someday this is fixed.

I feel you Mayweather and Pacquiao are known internationally and are obviously the most famous. But there are a lot of fighters who are very well known regionally. Saul Alvarez, Amir Khan, Lucian Bute, and there are others but I think it is just America who is having a problem producing popular fighters.
