Hopkins was a good fighter when Roy beat him, not a great one yet.

In retrospect Vasquez beating Larios in 1998(?) was an exceptional win.
In reality, the win didnt mean much since Larios wouldnt be prime for another 5 or so years.

Yeah, and Azumah Nelson was a nobody when Salvador Sanchez beat him. That's why I say in retrospect because, looking back, it's clear now why Azumah gave Salvador such hell (as Bernard did Jones that night) and because he established his own legacy. Who doesn't consider that a great victory for Salvador--even though Nelson had eight days notice. Roy wasn't a great fighter then either. Both went on to be great and it should be noted that Hopkins didn't lose for another 12 years.

the difference being that Nelson was closer to his prime against Sanchez than Hopkins was against Roy.

How so when Nelson was an unranked fighter with 13 fights and Hopkins was the #1 contender with 22?

Roy is the SMW GOAT and an undisputable ATG, but Robinson, Hagler and Monzon are all undoubtedly better middleweights. Close, though.

This thread is ******. You conveniently forget about his waxing of P4P number 1 James Toney.

Because Hopkins would take about 4+ more years to reach his prime, while Azumah would would take less.

but...thats mostly my opinion, to be fair.
