Why don't you make a poll and see who's greater between Mayweather and Jones. I'd bet Jones take it.

what the hell did james toney do at super middleweight to be number one man at the weight?..all tony did is beat Iran Barkley a guy Nigel Benn knockout in one round years earlier and a 45yo hopkins beat jones anyway
tarver cleaned out the division like jones did before going to heavyweight

roy was also 35, and michalczweski had already lost prior that year

james toney was 2nd or 3rd p4p best fighter at the time

and 45 year old hopkins beat a shot roy jones who had lost 6 of his last 11 fights yes, and fresh coming down from crusierweight where he was just ko'd in the first round by danny green

Come on...the dude put Jorge Castro in his first line as someone Roy avoided. I had to 'x' out after that.

Within about a year and a half, Roy would go on to beat James Toney in arguably his best performance of his career.

meanwhile Hopkins within the next year and a half would go on to struggle with a journeyman in Mercado. I actually thought he won the first bout, but he no doubt looked bad compared to his prime days at MW, which imo didnt start until around the Glen Johnson fight 4 years after the Roy Jones Jr fight.

Hopkins was most definitely not prime for the Jones fight, and was only about 9th or so best fighter in the division.
he was definitely not prime why? because he had'nt had a big win yet?
is that what prime is? not when a fighter is hungriest, youngest, freshest at his physical peak with a good knowledge of the game to boot?

is hopkins prime really at 39 years of age when all he can do is be a boring bastard that mauls a fighter in the ropes, headbutts and just grapples?

            amazing

you must have missed Toneys fights with McCallum, Littles, Charles and Nunn.

Im a bit of a skeptic when it comes to Jones' career myself, but theres no doubt the Toney win was huge. not even debatable.

he was green because a year and a half later he struggled and looked not very good against a journeyman, and performed FAR better a few years after that. If he was still green a year and a half after the Jones fight, then it stands to reason that he was also green in the Jones fight.

I told you very clearly I thought Hopkins' prime started at the Glen Johnson fight, and lasted until about the Trinidad fight. not his old man version. early 30s are not a strange age to be prime at all, just look at Wladimir for example.

Hopkins started late in boxing: every fighter has different primes, and if you really think he was closer to prime in the Mercado fight(or before) than he was in the Johnson/Trinidad fight, then I question your boxing knowledge.
