Comments Thread For: Alexander Povetkin in Position To Fight David Haye

Olympic gold medal winner Alexander Povetkin (21-0, 15KOs) is now in position to fight David Haye (25-1, 23KOs) on May 21 at the O2 Arena in London. The WBA has appointed Povetkin to the number two position in their latest rankings. The sanctioning organization has ordered Haye to face the mandatory, Ruslan Chagaev, who is seated at number one in the rankings. Chagaev's Hepatitis B status may prevent a possible fight with Haye. The British Board is reviewing Chagaev's medical records. The involved parties expect a decision this week. If Chagaev is not approved to fight in the UK, then the WBA will order the next available contender in the rankings and that would point directly to Povetkin.

Well, this has been a qualified guess for some time that the Sauerlands would try and bring Povetkin in position for this fight. I don't that their options for Haye reaches further that the next fight, but they have Povetkin tied up. If they can secure a mandatory shot for Povetkin, they have a chance winning of back the WBA title with no rematch clauses. And guess what: In that case, Povetkin vs. Valuev might be next!

i noticed this ranking change yesterday, not mad at it either.

dont think chageav is worthy of an opponent anymore, looking on poor form and his style to me doesnt bother haye too much, povetkin is better, and if he fires atlas, hele probably prepare well for a haye fight, plus niether klitschko have fought him yet.

Haye v povetkin should be put on hbo, whether or not haye goes to US to debut, which ideally i think he should be doing.

haye v vitali i am hopefull for in the summer time if haye does fight his mandatory may 21st.

maybe if haye retires vitali, wlad might grow some balls!.

I would much rather see Haye vs Povetkin than Haye vs Chageav but still anything outside of Haye vs Wlad/Vitali is a let down.

I think Povetkin is a far better boxer than what his recent fights reflects. Teddy Atlas tried to change his style and that made Povetkin confused and he doesnt fight with confidence anylonger.
He should go back to his old way of fighting, and if he does just that..then Haye is in for a surprise...

atlas ginted this recently that povetkin could go another route for a title shot.i said this right after he got stripped of his IBF ranking.he was still a top 3 or 4 in the other santioning bodies rankings...this is no surprise at all,its justb people were too busy calling him a ***** ducker or too busy insulting atlas...he got a few more fights in since & is now inline for haye...

Klitschko's fans told me that Haye gets to choose his next opponent and he would be an old shot fighter, damn liars.

Silly comment,Wlad still has july 2nd on hold for HAYE who refuses to sign for the fight Then Boothe said Haye was interested in fighting Vitali in may.and when Vitali said he was interested Boothe then retracted his previous statement and said Vitali was too old and more than likely will lose to Solis.(someone does need to grow some balls but it is obvious to anyone with any sense that it is not the Klitschkos)
