HBO had Oscar at that time. Who they have now to fill Pacquiao's shoes? Mayweather is a part timer and De La Hoya is old and retired.Comment

No way Cotto-Mayorga gets a higher viewer percentage that is on PPV while Martinez will be on HBO. Cotto-Mayorga would have to do like 750k to atleast have a shot and probably would have to be over 1 million and that wouldn't even be doing well for HBO that would merely be doing below average.
Also if you are going to ask people to kick in more cash you better have the better product or at least perceived that way.Comment

As for who is producing the PPV it isn't even that big a deal, it was always surprising that Showtime wasn't involved since they were voluntarily taking themselves out of the high end of the sport when really while the numbers are big they almost never lose (especially lose seriously). Even if Showtime is smaller but they do have enough resources that they should always have at least one of the top couple guys working for them, as boxing is a very star oriented sport if you aren't really with any of the main guys why be involved.
80 million in revenue isn't really shit to Time Warner or Viacom and would not consider boxing PPV to really be a part of their core business although expanding your market is usually good.
Interesting note though, Time Warner and Viacom are working together for March Madness this year (CBS,TBS,TNT) and since this will be the biggest sporting event CBS has during the build up, so it will be interesting to see it Time Warner can avoid helping them promote that fight big.Last edited by The Gambler1981; 01-22-2011, 03:53 PM.Comment

No chance. Martinez-Dzinziruk doing 800K live viewers would be a colossal failure. With that said, it would taken 10 Cotto-Mayorga fights to attain 800K PPV buys.Comment
