I'm happy because I think Showtime's profit off of this will increase their regular boxing budget.Very true,
Showtime will make a profit. How much of a profit? I don't know, but will make a bigger profit than any of their other showtime events they have schedule this year. Really it would make more money than any boxing show HBO will have if Floyd doesn't comeback this year. So Showtime end is good on this.Comment

and give them the confidence to put on more shows...it works out well for everyone
even HBO, they'll have to up the ante by putting on good cards to 'retain' viewers like they did when Tyson jumped ship to Showtime in the early 90sComment

its a smart move by showtime. the ppl who are gonna suffere for this is hbo and perhaps top rank. i dont buy this whole, showtime is gonna become the marquee network for boxing tho. its just not gonna happen. they put on good fights, sure, but hbo still has the biggest fights/fighters and it seems the will for the foreseeable future.Comment

It very well could.
The only that has me worried is that they will go back to the Tyson days and try to sign fighters. They did that with Bute which I didn't like at all.
However, if they use the profit to up their budget and keep it Great fights/no rights. Then it will be great for us boxing fans.
And, if Floyd doesn't comeback this year and Pac stays with Showtime. I will be curious to see how this would effect HBO and their budget.Comment

True but they still had Oscar in the 90's who consistently put on solid to good PPV numbers. Oscar was the biggest draw under HW at the time and IMO the 2nd biggest draw behind Tyson during that time period.
So HBO was OK in that sense that they could put on better fights.
The one thing that makes this different is that the one guy that can give them. those PPV like numbers is on a vacation and is unknown if he's coming back.
So it will be interesting to see how this works.
Plus in the 90's they had boxing guys running the program in Seth Abraham and Lou Dibella. Ross Greenburg is not a boxing guy. HBO can be in trouble here. However, Floyd can save them if he decides to comeback.Comment
