I don't doubt that Mayorga is a great guy outside the limelight. Usually these antics are all about drumming up interest for a fight, getting into the opponent's head, or both. Ricardo's shenanigans seem to be working. I don't think there would be nearly as much attention paid to this fight if he didn't make some noise.

Mayorga's trash talk might be just a little over the top, though. Miguel may or may not understand, or care, that his opponent's trash talk is all for publicity. In reality, Ricardo's the one who's shot. I don't think this one goes the distance. Cotto may very well give Mayorga a one-way ticket to retirement, with a brief layover at the hospital. No hard feelings, Ricardo....

Cotto wins this fight. I think he'll probably stop Mayorga. An upset would be bad for Miguel's biggest fans. Boxing would lose a quality fighter to match-up against the elite. But, man, the excitement it would stir up on this board! lol

This is clearly a courtesy fight arranged by veteran promoters King and Arum initiated by the former. Arum can't turn DK down, obviously. Arum needs King's friendship and sympathy at this moment. Martinez would have been a better alternative for Cotto. Arum has become so powerful that he practically dictates what fans would watch. No wonder HBO is staying away from him.

A fight versus Sergio Martinez? Sure, it would be a bigger event and, therefore, a bigger payday. But Sergio would be a big favorite in that one.

Yeah, you're right, it's not an easy fight for Cotto, sure, but it would have been a bigger pay day and more attractive to fans. I'm not sure if Cotto would have preferred it more than this fight with Mayorga, I don't know. Otherwise, I can't really fault Arum for it.
