Cortez did the right thing in round 10, he stopped Maidana from hitting Khan cleanly on the back of the head. Rabbit punches are illegal, maybe the thread starter would have preferred to have another Gerald Mclellan incident instead? Maidana fought like a piece of ****, he was continuously hitting khan behind the head, using his elbows, and even swung for him when Khan went to touch gloves at the start of the fight.
I'm not really a fan of Khan, but this article is bull****. Khan clearly won the fight, and no credible boxing writer would claim that a fighter deserved to win a fight because the other was more marked up. The fact that Cortez is being criticised by mainly American posters for not allowing Maidana to hold stinks of hypocrisy. Its likely that the same posters were among those who criticised Hatton for his fighting style.

I also think it's ******ed to moan that Maidana was winded throughout the fight because of the bodyshot. Oh right, well in that case then you've just wiped the whole point of boxing off the face of the planet. Winning against your opponent is an accumulation of punches, THAT'S WHAT BOXING IS!!

There are several high profile fights wherein he does this. I'm not saying he is a great referee though .... just consistent.

disgraceful article, ignoring the fact khan gave maidana a beat down in the first 8 rounds of the fight, also the fact khan landed more hits and so on

sure khan was on his bike for the 10th and 11th round but certainly was not in the 12th

also those who argue against cortez should learn the rules of boxing, sure there was maybe one time cortez stopped maidana when one hand was free but the other times he was stopping maidana from throwing rabbit punches which was the correct thing to do
