Maidana was robbed by Cortez

I knew there was going to be controversy when I saw Cortez was made the ref. He has a bad reputation as a bought paid off ref that influences fights in the house fighter's favour. I have no doubt GBP selected him to stack the odds but I also believe that Khan would have won with another ref. IMO Cortez should not have been appointed.Comment

Thats pretty much what I was trying to say!!!
Dr Orgy, your probably right, Rene would win the Rematch IMO, he wasnt prepared for Khan to attack him so early on, I think he planned for Khan to run the whole fight, but he held his own for the first half to shock Rene.
If Khans people are smart, they will Keep Amir away from Rene for a rematch, Amir has nothing to gain from this.
Still, I wouldnt mind seeing Khan getting smacked around again LOL!!!Comment

Are people still moaning about this fight...?
1. Khan took Maidana out with a sweet bodyshot. Guess what guys...it's within the rules of boxing!..that is, to take your opponent out as quickly as possible. If Maidana left himself open..it's his fault!! he paid the consequences. To me that's like saying if fighter A didn't get knocked out he could have won the fight.....I mean WTF???
2. Khan took some huge uppercuts (willingly) to prove he had a chin. He took huge shots from Maidana, the biggest puncher in the division...that probably if not all of the division would have been buzzed with..not just Amir.
3. Khan landed twice as many shots
4. Maidana just tried to land power punches for 12 rounds and didn't box. Fair enough, if that was his gameplan..his gameplan failed.
5. Cortez was biased to both fighters at different stages of the fight. But i do agree he is a **** ref.
Khan won the fight. Move on.Comment

Cortez did the right thing in round 10, he stopped Maidana from hitting Khan cleanly on the back of the head. Rabbit punches are illegal, maybe the thread starter would have preferred to have another Gerald Mclellan incident instead? Maidana fought like a piece of ****, he was continuously hitting khan behind the head, using his elbows, and even swung for him when Khan went to touch gloves at the start of the fight.
I'm not really a fan of Khan, but this article is bull****. Khan clearly won the fight, and no credible boxing writer would claim that a fighter deserved to win a fight because the other was more marked up.The fact that Cortez is being criticised by mainly American posters for not allowing Maidana to hold stinks of hypocrisy. Its likely that the same posters were among those who criticised Hatton for his fighting style.Comment

As far as i'm concerned if Khan had Maidana in the same position Cortez would of stepped in to stop it...
As far as the Hatton debate goes, he was allowed to work on the inside in the first few rounds but he abused that by rabbit punching. So Cortez probably assumed all his inside work would consist of that, so broke them accordingly. I didn't have too much of a problem with that fight, just gutted Hatton lost.Comment
